PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Adam Giles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hate Fate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hate Fate will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Adam Giles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Hate Fate!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Phil Schofield and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fate throws a head kick but Giles moves out of range.
Giles slaps away a takedown attempt from Fate, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Fate tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Giles tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Fate swivels and escapes.
Giles throws a body punch but Fate moves out of range.

Fate fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Giles to the ground. Fate is now in Giles's guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Fate trying to control but Giles is working from the bottom.
Giles trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Fate stopping the sweep attempt from Giles.

Giles manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Fate manages to get himself to full guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Hate Fate wasn't active enough on the ground.

Fate tries a head kick but it misses.
Fate fails with a takedown attempt.
Fate looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Giles is fending him off so far but Fate persists. Nope, Giles circles away and we're back to standing.

Fate tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Giles manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

and Giles cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Giles shoots for a double leg takedown but Fate sprawls well. He's pushed Giles's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Giles seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Fate is looking to improve his position.
Giles is controlling the pace.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Adam Giles just wasn't active enough.
Fate tries to score a power double leg takedown but Giles sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Fate somewhat.

Fate feints and then cracks Giles's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Giles down.

Fate throws a head kick but Giles moves out of range.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Giles checks a leg kick.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Fate darts in looking for a takedown but Giles gets double underhooks and turns Fate into the cage.
Giles just leaning against Fate, taking a breather.
Fate avoiding damage as Giles throws knees to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Adam Giles will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Giles seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Fate for as long as he can get away with.

Giles drops back looking for a leg! Fate is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Fate manages to kick Giles off! Giles jumps back into Fate's guard.

Fate is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Giles defends well.
Giles throws a big elbow that misses.

Giles drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Giles jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Fate tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Giles wants to control from the top but Fate keeps moving.
Giles is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Horrible takedown by Fate or perhaps it was just good defense by Giles which made him look bad.

Giles closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Fate's guard.
Fate is looking to stand up but Giles isn't so interested in that idea.

Giles got a little sloppy there for a moment and Fate has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Giles has managed to get both his arms back between Fate's legs - danger averted.
Giles keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Fate's head.
Giles controls from within his opponent's guard.

Giles's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Adam Giles is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Nice straight punches there by Fate. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Fate.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Adam Giles.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Giles, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
