PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hector Benzo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bowie Kuhn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kuhn has chosen walk as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Hector Benzo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Bowie Kuhn!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Bart Greer and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Benzo doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Benzo shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kuhn's guard.
Benzo has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Kuhn being controlled here, momentarily.

Benzo is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Kuhn is looking for a triangle but Benzo pushes his legs off easily.
Benzo stays in close to Kuhn's body and controls the position.
Benzo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kuhn swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Hector Benzo just wasn't active enough.

Benzo closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Kuhn's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Benzo trying to control the position from guard on top but Kuhn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kuhn should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Benzo is really struggling to control Kuhn but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Benzo would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Kuhn keeping moving, preventing Benzo from controlling successfully.

We're going to have a standup here because Hector Benzo wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Kuhn looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Hector Benzo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Benzo lands a leg kick that knocks Kuhn off balance momentarily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kuhn throws a lazy uppercut
and Benzo counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Benzo closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kuhn did well to prevent Benzo getting side control.
Benzo slows the pace down in half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Benzo wants to free his trapped foot but Kuhn is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Kuhn gets full guard.

Kuhn is looking for a triangle but Benzo pushes his legs off easily.

Benzo decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Benzo shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Benzo lands a nice short elbow.
Benzo seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Benzo working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Benzo slows the pace down in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kuhn blocking the ground and pound attempt from Benzo.
We've been informed that Kuhn has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Benzo perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Kuhn wants to get back to full guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Benzo stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Kuhn to get to his feet.
Kuhn thows a left - swing and a miss!

Kuhn tries to keep at a distance but Benzo has taken the fight into the clinch.

Benzo breaks the clinch.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
A low kick from Kuhn is predictable there

and Benzo counters with a shoot takedown. Kuhn fights it but they end up in guard.
Benzo is stalling in the full guard.
Benzo slips nicely into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hector Benzo dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Benzo drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Kuhn has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Benzo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kuhn on the ground.

Benzo is posturing up here but Kuhn has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Benzo tries to roll out but it's too tight and Benzo has to tap! Slick submission there by Kuhn!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Bowie Kuhn!
