PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Danny Barns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Franklin Diggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Franklin Diggs will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Danny Barns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Franklin Diggs!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Sandra Marshall and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barns walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Diggs checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Diggs scores with a sloppy right hand. Barns should have avoided that one.
Diggs throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Barns throws a predictable looking body shot
and Diggs counters with a slapping leg kick.
Barns pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
The fighters circle momentarily. Diggs darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
A jab from Diggs misses.

Barns shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Barns throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Diggs keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

Barns looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Diggs is refusing to be controlled, as Barns sits in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Barns prevents Diggs from improving his position.
Barns not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Barns trying to mount his opponent but Diggs defends it.
Diggs is trying to control but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Diggs works his way to full guard. Good work.
Barns is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Barns trying to control the position from guard on top but Diggs is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Diggs controls Barns momentarily but Barns frees himself.
Barns lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Diggs lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Barns!
Barns holds on to Diggs as tight as he can, avoiding damage.
Barns is working to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Barns avoids a series of strikes thrown by Diggs.
Barns controls the position.
Diggs throwing strikes here but Barns is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Diggs goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Barns turns into him and now he's in Diggs's guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Barns with a nice head shot there.
Barns controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Barns cracks Diggs with a solid left hand.
Barns has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Diggs is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Barns looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Barns trying to control but Diggs is working from the bottom.
Barns cracks Diggs with a solid left hand.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Barns scoring with some ground and pound.
Barns is in close to Diggs's body, working some short punches and elbows.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Barns has gone for a leg lock! Diggs slips out almost immediately though and dives into Barns's guard.
Diggs tries to free his leg and advance position but Barns is retaining full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Danny Barns dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Barns shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Diggs napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Diggs is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Barns not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Diggs is doing well to control the position and prevent Barns from advancing to side control.
Barns passes into side control, despite Diggs's attempt to control the position.
Diggs is looking to regain half guard here but Barns keeps moving and retains side control.
Diggs is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Barns is controlling him well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Barns trying to control the action but Diggs is working from the bottom.
Diggs tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Barns wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Diggs takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Diggs is trying to control Barns's posture but Barns avoids it.
Barns moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Diggs wants to control but Barns postures up.
Barns is looking to take a break and control but Diggs is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Diggs wants to control but Barns postures up.

Barns working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Danny Barns overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Diggs wants to control but Barns postures up.
Barns in side control, throwing shots but Diggs defends.
You can see the frustration on Diggs's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Barns cracks Diggs with a big elbow.


Diggs is rocked!
Barns in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Diggs looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! Barns turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Danny Barns!
Danny Barns was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
