PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Poo Leg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cearnaigh Chulainn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Poo Leg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 1, fighting out of London, Cearnaigh Chulainn!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Wagner Zegers and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Chulainn closes the distance and clinches.
Chulainn has Leg pressed against the cage.

Chulainn breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Chulainn closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Leg quickly recovers to half guard.
Leg is trying to get back to full guard.

Chulainn seems to be working for a kimura but Leg defends the submission attempt.
Chulainn thows a huge punch but Leg dodges it nicely.
Chulainn is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Chulainn tries to pass to full mount but Leg defends it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chulainn is controlling the pace.
Chulainn landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Leg tries to roll over but Chulainn keeps him under control.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Chulainn connects with a nice short shot to Leg's temple.

Chulainn stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Leg to get to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Leg moves to clinch but Chulainn breaks away

and Chulainn counters with a takedown into side control.
Chulainn has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Leg regains half guard.
Chulainn slows the pace down in half guard.
Chulainn is thwarting Leg's attempts to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Chulainn seems to be looking for submissions.
Chulainn looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Cearnaigh Chulainn wasn't active enough on the ground.
Nice takedown defense from Chulainn. No joy for Leg on that attempt.
Leg misses with a head kick.

Chulainn scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Chulainn just content to control the position.

Leg stops Chulainn from passing to mount.

Chulainn is trying to get an arm triangle but Leg is defending well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Chulainn decides to take the fight back to the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cearnaigh Chulainn dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Chulainn shoots in and gets a takedown into Leg's guard.
Chulainn is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Leg looking for a guillotine here but Chulainn defends easily.
Leg has a closed guard, preventing Chulainn from standing up.
Chulainn slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Let's hope that Chulainn has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Cearnaigh Chulainn hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Chulainn shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Leg defends it nicely.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Leg enables Chulainn to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Leg manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Chulainn postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Chulainn gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Leg uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Chulainn.

Chulainn has closed the distance and engaged Leg in a clinch.

Chulainn manages to break the clinch.

Chulainn closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Leg sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Chulainn takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Leg tries to roll over but Chulainn keeps him under control.
Chulainn performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Chulainn decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Chulainn has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Leg tries a head kick but it misses.
Leg tries to clinch but Chulainn moves away

and Chulainn counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Leg!

Leg is working to avoid the ground and pound but Chulainn connects with a decent elbow.
Chulainn is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Leg will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Chulainn works to advance to full mount. Leg defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Leg keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Chulainn lands a couple of good shots and Leg has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Chulainn keeps control of the position easily here as Leg tries to buck him off.
Leg covers up after that shot from Chulainn.

A bit of a pause in the action here. Chulainn controlling the positon.
Leg trying to control but not successfully.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cearnaigh Chulainn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Leg shoots in for a takedown but Chulainn shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Poo Leg is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Chulainn will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Cearnaigh Chulainn.

Chulainn has taken the fight to the clinch.

Chulainn drags the fight down to the ground.
Chulainn is pulling down on Leg's head. It's preventing any offense from Leg, at least for the moment.
Leg has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Chulainn can do anything to dispel that myth.
Chulainn bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Leg's guard.
Leg controls Chulainn momentarily but Chulainn frees himself.
Chulainn postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Chulainn is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Cearnaigh Chulainn has got the better of the ground game so far.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Leg is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Chulainn controls from within his opponent's guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Chulainn pushing down on Leg's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Leg wants to control the action here but instead Chulainn manages to pass to full mount!

Leg is looking to improve his position but Chulainn isn't that keen on the idea.
Chulainn breaks from Leg's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Chulainn scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Chulainn is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Leg is in real trouble.

Cearnaigh Chulainn comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Chulainn has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
