PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Elmo Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Shoupp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shoupp is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Send The Pain Below. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Elmo Lewis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alex Shoupp!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Alyssa Summers and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shoupp tries to clinch but Lewis moves out of range.
Shoupp looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Shoupp gets the takedown into side control.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Shoupp laying and praying for a moment but Lewis takes advantage and regains half guard.
Lewis is trying to stand up here but Shoupp is controlling him well.
Shoupp slows the pace down in half guard.
Shoupp is trying to control. Lewis wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Lewis trying to control but Shoupp postures up.

Lewis is controlling Shoupp's trapped leg to prevent Shoupp from advancing to side control.
Lewis could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Alex Shoupp was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Shoupp changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Lewis looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Lewis pushes Shoupp away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Shoupp gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Lewis gets back to half guard.
Shoupp thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Lewis is refusing to be controlled, as Shoupp sits in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Lewis is looking to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Shoupp shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Lewis napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Lewis is looking for a sweep.
Shoupp tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Shoupp is looking to take a break and control but Lewis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Shoupp tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Shoupp wants to take a breather but Lewis manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Shoupp.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

We've been informed that Shoupp has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Lewis wants to control but Shoupp is keeping busy.
Shoupp passes the guard and advances to mount!

Lewis tries to hold on but Shoupp pushes him away.

Lewis really wants to buck Shoupp off and get back to his feet.

Lewis is in a horrible position here. Shoupp smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Shoupp wants to control the pace but Lewis is squirming around nicely.
Shoupp might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Lewis haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Lewis tries to hold on but Shoupp postures up.
Lewis flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Shoupp throwing strikes but Lewis recovers to half guard. A much better position.
Shoupp is looking to advance position but Lewis won't allow it.
Lewis is trying to stand up here but Shoupp is controlling him well.

Lewis holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Lewis wants to get back to his feet.
Shoupp trying to control from half guard but Lewis is working away.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Alex Shoupp was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Lewis turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Shoupp decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Shoupp seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lewis does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Shoupp stalling away here and it's allowed Lewis to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Shoupp. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Shoupp stays in close to Lewis's body and controls the position.
Lewis is pulling down on Shoupp's head. It's preventing any offense from Shoupp, at least for the moment.
Shoupp wants to control from the top but Lewis keeps moving.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Alex Shoupp wasn't active enough on the ground.
Lewis throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Shoupp's waist but Shoupp gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lewis off to one side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Shoupp showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Shoupp throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Lewis was covering up waiting for the punch and Shoupp finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Lewis wants to stand and escape but Shoupp is having none of it.
Shoupp wants to control from the top but Lewis keeps moving.

Lewis shoots in and drives through. Shoupp sprawls well.

Shoupp closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Lewis quickly recovers to half guard.

Shoupp is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Lewis is trying to maintain the position but Shoupp is very close to passing his half guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Shoupp is keen to just control but Lewis is a slippery customer.

Alex Shoupp has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Lewis shoots in looking for a takedown. Shoupp tries to sprawl out of it but Lewis keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Shoupp manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Lewis decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Shoupp, up you get!

Shoupp wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lewis keeps working.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Alex Shoupp comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Shoupp winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
