PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between RYAN JOHNSON (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Brock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think JOHNSON might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to BARBIE GIRL. RYAN JOHNSON has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, RYAN JOHNSON!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Brock!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brock fails with the takedown.

Brock drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brock trying to control the position from guard on top but JOHNSON is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Brock tries to free his leg and advance position but JOHNSON is retaining full guard.

Brock stands up from guard. Let's bang!
JOHNSON tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Brock shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
JOHNSON is breathing heavily.

Brock decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on JOHNSON, up you get!
JOHNSON moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Brock avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
JOHNSON wants to land a leg kick but Brock is out of range.
Brock fails to land the takedown.
JOHNSON throws a right hand that Brock ducks under and follows up with a left that Brock also avoids with ease.
JOHNSON tries a head kick but it misses.

Brock rushes JOHNSON and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Brock trying to land knees to the body.
Brock tries to pull guard but JOHNSON won't allow it.
RYAN JOHNSON has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Brock.
Brock jumps guard but JOHNSON stands there with Brock around his waist. Brock gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Brock wants to break the clinch but can't.
Brock fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Brock goes for a takedown in the clinch but JOHNSON prevents it.

JOHNSON breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Brock takes a kick to the side of the head.
Brock tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but JOHNSON swivels and escapes.
No luck for Brock with that takedown attempt.
JOHNSON connects with a high kick.

JOHNSON lands with a nice combination. Brock backs away looking to recover.
Brock looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? JOHNSON is fending him off so far but Brock persists. Nope, JOHNSON circles away and we're back to standing.
JOHNSON misses with a wild combination.

Brock closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Brock lands in his opponent's guard.
JOHNSON is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Brock is controlling him.

Brock is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Brock slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

JOHNSON is pushing Brock's head away, looking to escape. Brock manages to hold on to the position though.
Brock is looking to take a break and control but JOHNSON is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
JOHNSON is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Brock thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Brock is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. JOHNSON knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
JOHNSON is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Brock asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Brock thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
JOHNSON is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Brock is controlling him well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Brock misses with a takedown attempt - JOHNSON sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
JOHNSON throws a lazy right hand but Brock sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
JOHNSON throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Brock.
Brock shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with JOHNSON but JOHNSON pushes him off and we're back to square one.
JOHNSON stuffs the takedown.
RYAN JOHNSON has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Brock.
JOHNSON throws a nice looking combination but Brock bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Brock shoots for a takedown but JOHNSON saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Brock throws a leg kick that misses.
Brock shoots in for a takedown but JOHNSON shows good takedown defense.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
JOHNSON tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

JOHNSON gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Brock prevents JOHNSON from getting back to his feet.
JOHNSON will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

JOHNSON has his feet on Brock's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Brock keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Brock shoots in for a takedown but JOHNSON shows good takedown defense.
Brock takes a body punch but keeps moving.
No luck for Brock with that takedown attempt.
JOHNSON stuffs the takedown.
Brock lands a jab to the head.
Crunch! JOHNSON slams his shin into Brock's torso.

Brock blocks a head kick by JOHNSON.
JOHNSON throws a series of punches but Brock avoids them all with ease.

Brock looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for JOHNSON!
JOHNSON squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
JOHNSON trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Brock with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
JOHNSON is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Brock trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Brock won't let JOHNSON get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Brock unloading with bombs!
JOHNSON is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Brock takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Brock is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. JOHNSON can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
BOOM! Brock connects with a massive shot to the dome!
JOHNSON tries to buck Brock off but he can't manage it.
Brock trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Brock lands a big elbow.

Brock looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Brock won't let JOHNSON get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Brock showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


JOHNSON throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
JOHNSON misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
JOHNSON throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
RYAN JOHNSON seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Brock bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Brock stands up.
Brock avoids the head kick by JOHNSON.
Brock will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

JOHNSON lands with a nice combination. Brock backs away looking to recover.
JOHNSON misses with a jab, cross combination.
Brock takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
JOHNSON throws a right hand that Brock ducks under and follows up with a left that Brock also avoids with ease.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Brock stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. JOHNSON swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Brock gets to his feet - JOHNSON follows without any prompting.
Brock shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts JOHNSON as he jumps to the side.
Some wild striking there from JOHNSON.
JOHNSON throws a push kick but Brock slaps the foot to one side.
A head kick misses from JOHNSON.
Brock shoots for a double leg takedown but JOHNSON sprawls well. He's pushed Brock's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
RYAN JOHNSON has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Brock.
Brock lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
JOHNSON misses with a head kick.
RYAN JOHNSON is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
JOHNSON misses with a straight left.
JOHNSON moves out of range as Brock throws a body kick.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Brock changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. JOHNSON tries to avoid it but Brock manages to keep hold of a leg and drag JOHNSON to the ground. JOHNSON escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Brock feints and as JOHNSON raises his hands in defense, Brock changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
JOHNSON wants to stand but Brock is controlling the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Brock thows a body shot but no joy.
JOHNSON tries to bum rush Brock with a series of wild strikes but Brock uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

JOHNSON wants to stand back up but Brock manages to pass into side control.

Brock stands up and beckons JOHNSON to his feet.
JOHNSON will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Brock shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

James Brock comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Brock winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
