Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jay Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dean Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Dean Thomas enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Jay Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dean Thomas!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Roger Salmon and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Penn or perhaps it was just good defense by Thomas which made him look bad.
Penn moves out of range of the body kick.
Penn on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Thomas. Thomas obviously looking to wear him down.
Thomas feints and then cracks Penn's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Penn down.
Thomas tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Penn fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Thomas avoids it really well and circles away.
Thomas buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Penn shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Thomas as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jay Penn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Thomas connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Thomas lands a head kick!


It looks like Jay Penn has been cut.
Thomas throws a leg kick but Penn sees it coming and checks it nicely.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Thomas enables Penn to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Thomas manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Thomas controlling the position.
Penn engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Penn trying to control the position from guard on top but Thomas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Thomas looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Penn is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Thomas is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Thomas has escaped and now he's on top!
Penn wants to sweep here but Thomas controlling him for the moment.
Thomas must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Thomas wants to pass the guard but Penn is keeping the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Penn is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Penn has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Thomas has passed into side control.

Thomas decides to stand back up. Thomas steps back and let's Penn get back to his feet.
Dean Thomas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Thomas throws a head kick that Penn semi-blocks.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Penn shoots in for a takedown but Thomas shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Good leg kick by Thomas there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Thomas scores with a kick to the body.
Penn on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Thomas throws a nice outside leg kick.
Penn stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Thomas.
Thomas misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Thomas thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Penn if he has to take too many more of those.
Thomas buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Penn is breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Penn avoids the head kick by Thomas.
Penn looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Thomas is fending him off so far but Penn persists. Nope, Thomas circles away and we're back to standing.
Thomas throws a quick inside leg kick.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Thomas.
Penn will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Thomas thumps Penn with a low kick.
Thomas lets loose with a powerful body kick. Penn will feel that in the morning.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Penn takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Thomas throws a quick inside leg kick.
Thomas lets loose with a powerful body kick. Penn will feel that in the morning.

Thomas lands a big head kick that sends Penn tumbling to the mat! Thomas takes a step backwards and waves Penn back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Penn is rocked!
Thomas lands a big head kick that sends Penn to the canvas! Thomas follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dean Thomas!
Our winner, Dean Thomas, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
