PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rubin Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eikichi Onizuka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carter comes to the cage accompanied by Bob Dylan - Hurricane. The crowd seem to be enjoying Onizuka's choice of entrance music: GTO's Greatest Moments. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Onizuka closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Carter tries to free his leg and advance position but Onizuka is retaining full guard.

Onizuka throws his legs up looking for a submission but Carter uses it to pass to side control.

Carter's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Onizuka pushes Carter off looking to stand but Carter dives back in and keeps control.

Onizuka looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Carter has picked Onizuka up and slammed him! Onizuka can't keep hold of the triangle and Carter manages to pass to side control!

Onizuka pushes Carter away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Carter gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Carter is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Onizuka tries to clinch up but Carter circles away and keeps his distance.

Carter throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Onizuka stalks Carter and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Carter's face. Carter staggers backwards, shaken.
Onizuka looks to score with a jab to the body but Carter is just out of range.
A head kick by Onizuka misses
and Carter counters with an inside leg kick.
Carter lands a nice shot that snaps Onizuka's head back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rubin Carter dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Onizuka works Carter's body with a nice hook.
Onizuka moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Onizuka takes one to the chin there.
Carter pivots, looking for a leg kick but Onizuka is out of range and Carter settles back down.
Carter lands a nice looking kick to the body. Onizuka takes a step back to recover.

A big head kick from Onizuka and Carter is sent sprawling to the canvas!

It looks like Rubin Carter has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Carter manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Onizuka working aggressively here.
Carter blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Onizuka jumps guard but Carter turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Onizuka is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Carter is defending well.
Onizuka is trying to pull guard but Carter has him pressed against the cage.
Rubin Carter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eikichi Onizuka.

Onizuka misses with a punch on the inside.
Onizuka jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Carter walks away with a smile on his face. Onizuka gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Carter bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Carter lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Eikichi Onizuka seems to be getting the better of the standup.

and Carter counters with a left to the body.
Carter's jab looks to have found its range, popping Onizuka under the eye.

Onizuka closes the distance and pushes Carter back into the cage.
Onizuka tries to pull guard but Carter won't allow it.
Onizuka fails to pull the fight into his guard.

A left hand lands to the body for Carter.

Onizuka makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Carter doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Rubin Carter has scored more points in the clinch so far.

Carter lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Onizuka backwards.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Carter.

Onizuka tries to pull guard but Carter forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Onizuka seems to have recovered his senses.
Onizuka goes for a takedown attempt but Carter pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Carter lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
A right-left combo lands from Carter.
Carter cracks Onizuka with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Onizuka tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Carter pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Onizuka is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
