The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Oneill closes the distance and clinches.
Madsen keeps control of Oneill as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Oneill breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Thomas Madsen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Oneill feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Madsen swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Oneill throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Oneill lands a nice hook to Madsen's body. Madsen takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Madsen wants to clinch but Oneill slips to the side
and Oneill counters with a left and a right that stings Madsen.

Oneill stalks Madsen and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Madsen's face. Madsen staggers backwards, shaken.
Oneill stuns Madsen with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Madsen crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Oneill - the referee stops the clock and Madsen gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Oneill. Madsen manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Oneill here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Madsen is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Oneill jumps into side control!

Madsen is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Oneill is pressed up against the cage. Madsen has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Oneill down to the mat. Oneill avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Oneill throws a combination. Madsen tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Oneill stands up from guard. Let's bang!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
