PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Beau Ruane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Knack Wupp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Beau Ruane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Knack Wupp!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Sandra Marshall and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wupp goes for a double leg but Ruane avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Ruane continues to drive forward.
Wupp tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Ruane fails to pull guard.

Ruane breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Wupp manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Ruane on his heels. He'll look to pass Ruane's guard now, I'm sure.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wupp won't allow Ruane to sweep him here.
Wupp advances position into side control!
Wupp trying to control the position but Ruane is working away.
Ruane knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Wupp on the ground.
Wupp working away.
Wupp remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Ruane is trying to get back to his feet.

Wupp working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Ruane is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wupp is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ruane is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Wupp working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Wupp wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ruane keeps working.

Wupp thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Ruane wants to control but Wupp postures up.
Ruane could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Wupp is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Ruane knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Wupp trying to control the position but Ruane is working away.
Ruane is looking for a sweep.

Ruane is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Wupp is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Ruane is wriggling around trying to escape.
Wupp content just to control the position here.
Ruane tries to hold on but Wupp pushes him away.
Ruane is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Ruane can't escape the position.

Wupp wants to finish this one by submission but Ruane is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Wupp.

Wupp working for a guillotine from mount but Ruane is in no mood to give up.

Wupp goes for an armbar but Ruane turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Ruane.

Wupp is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ruane controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Wupp is pulling down on Ruane's head to control his posture.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Knack Wupp dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Ruane clinches with his opponent.
Wupp looking to slow down the pace here.
Ruane is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Wupp gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Ruane lands an elbow inside that Wupp shrugs off.
Wupp is trying to pull guard but Ruane has him pressed against the cage.
Wupp prevents the takedown attempt.
Wupp jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ruane walks away with a smile on his face. Wupp gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Wupp stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Ruane.
Wupp walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Beau Ruane is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ruane fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Beau Ruane. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wupp shoots in for a takedown but Ruane shows good takedown defense.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ruane tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Wupp manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
No luck for Ruane with that takedown attempt.
Ruane tries a head kick but it misses.
Wupp shoots for a takedown but Ruane saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Ruane tries to clinch up but Wupp circles away and keeps his distance.
Ruane shoots in and drives through. Wupp sprawls well.
Wupp is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ruane sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Wupp keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Wupp fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ruane avoids it really well and circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ruane throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Wupp's waist but Wupp gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ruane off to one side.
Wupp shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ruane as he jumps to the side.
Wupp fails with the takedown.
Ruane stuffs the takedown attempt from Wupp. Wupp gets slowly back to his feet.
Donk. Ruane catches Wupp right on the button with a cross.

Ruane clinches up with Wupp and pushes him back against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ruane breaks from the clinch.
Wupp misses with a takedown attempt - Ruane sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Ruane has his takedown stuffed

and Wupp counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Wupp slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Wupp's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Ruane wants to get back to his feet but Wupp passes into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ruane is looking to escape.
Wupp tries to pass the half guard into mount. Ruane knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Wupp wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ruane keeps working.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Ruane stuffs the takedown attempt from Wupp. Wupp gets slowly back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Beau Ruane will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Wupp leaves Ruane with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Ruane slaps away a takedown attempt from Wupp, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Ruane clinches.
Wupp is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Wupp can't break the clinch.
Ruane is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Wupp pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Wupp wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Ruane has him pressed against the cage.
Wupp has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Ruane seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Wupp can turn it around.
Wupp looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Ruane breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Wupp closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Wupp lands in his opponent's guard.

Ruane looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Ruane looking for a sweep. Not yet Ruane, not yet.
Wupp trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Wupp's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Wupp passes into half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Wupp prevents Ruane from improving his position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Wupp in particular looking to stall.
Ruane is not content to let Wupp control the position.

Wupp is trying to work for a kimura but Ruane is defending well.
Wupp moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Ruane.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ruane tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Wupp presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Wupp is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Ruane has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Wupp wants to control the pace but Ruane is squirming around nicely.
Wupp avoids the attempt from Ruane to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Wupp is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Ruane can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Ruane is trying to stand up.

Wupp goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Ruane turns into him and now he's in Wupp's guard.

Wupp is looking for a triangle but Ruane pushes his legs off easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
Knack Wupp comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Wupp has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
