PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jim Block (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Davison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jim Block is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jim Block!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Chris Davison!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yuuki Gou and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davison tries for a takedown but Block circles away easily

and Block counters with a single leg into guard. Davison didn't expect that.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Davison can do anything to dispel that myth.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Block accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Davison is on top in guard.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Davison working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Davison must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Davison stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Block swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Davison might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Block haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Chris Davison wasn't active enough on the ground.

Block is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Block could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Davison pulls Block in close to his closed guard and prevents Block from doing any damage or advancing position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jim Block will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Block keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Davison enables Block to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Davison manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Block's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Block with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Block got a little sloppy there for a moment and Davison has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Block has managed to get both his arms back between Davison's legs - danger averted.

Jim Block overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Chris Davison hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Davison misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Davison connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Block some visible discomfort.
Davison creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Block regains half guard there - taking advantage of Davison's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

The strikes coming from Davison are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Block looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Davison with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Block is trying to control the action in half guard but Davison is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Davison slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
