The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ali enables Maldon to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ali manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Ali wants to sweep but no luck.
Maldon postures up and lands a big shot to Ali's brow.
Ali not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ali looking to hit a scissor sweep but Maldon is one step ahead there.
Maldon is working Ali over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Ali wants to sweep but no luck.
Maldon has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Maldon keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Ali's head.
Ali is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ali wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Maldon is now in half guard.
Ali is trying to get back to full guard.
Ali really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Maldon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ali is in trouble now - Maldon has advanced to mount!
Ali is squirming around, avoiding Maldon's attempts to control the action.
Ali swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Maldon is in full mount looking to finish with strikes. He lands a big shot, followed by another and Ali goes limp! The ref jumps in to end the fight - a big win for Maldon!
