Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, August Maxwell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Edwin Shogun!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Maxwell enables Shogun to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Maxwell manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Maxwell avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Shogun makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Shogun trying to control but Maxwell is working from the bottom.
Maxwell wants to stand but Shogun is controlling the position.
Shogun tries to free his leg and advance position but Maxwell is retaining full guard.
Maxwell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Maxwell avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Shogun postures up in Maxwell's guard and throws a big left but Maxwell blocks it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Maxwell trying to control the position.
Shogun stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Maxwell swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Shogun won't allow Maxwell to sweep him here.
Shogun has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Shogun changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Maxwell looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Maxwell is breathing heavily.
Shogun wants to control but Maxwell is keeping him busy.
Shogun lands a few punches from side control.
You can see the frustration on Maxwell's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Maxwell is rocked!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Maxwell is looking to get back to his feet here but Shogun is keeping cool and he's managed to take Maxwell's back.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Shogun is loading up with his shots from the back and Maxwell is in big trouble! Maxwell taps out to strikes and the fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Edwin Shogun!
Edwin Shogun decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
