Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Higashi Sato (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Joseph (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joseph has chosen Malfunction by Cro-Mags as his entrance music. Higashi Sato has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Higashi Sato!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Joseph!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Robert Douchet and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joseph throws a nice inside leg kick.
Joseph scores with a leg kick.
Sato swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Joseph throws a sloppy head kick and Sato moves out of range easily.
Sato gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Sato fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Joseph to the ground. Sato is now in Joseph's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sato cracks Joseph with a solid left hand.
Sato postures up in Joseph's guard and throws a big left but Joseph blocks it.
Sato has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Joseph looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Sato puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Joseph wants to improve his position but Sato is controlling well.
Joseph manages to get to full guard.
Joseph preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Joseph is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Joseph told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Sato slips nicely into half guard.
Sato has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sato winds up and cracks Joseph with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Joseph can do anything to dispel that myth.

Joseph explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Joseph throws a right and a left that Sato avoids nicely.

Joseph misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Joseph throws a shot from downtown. Sato moves away and avoids it.
John Joseph is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Joseph connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Joseph takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Sato takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Joseph takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but John Joseph will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Joseph bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

It looks like Higashi Sato has been cut.
Sato takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
John Joseph is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Joseph throws a head kick that misses.
Joseph misses with a jab, cross combination.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Sato, as that shot connected.


It looks like John Joseph has been cut.
Sato on the wrong end of a nice jab.

Joseph cracks Sato with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
A head kick misses from Joseph.
Sato's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Joseph connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Sato scrambles back to his feet.

Joseph tries to bum rush Sato with a series of wild strikes but Sato uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Joseph throws a one two combo.
Oh Sato is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Sato throws out a loose jab but Joseph uses good head movement to avoid it.
Sato seems to have got his legs back now.

Sato throws an overhand right that lands on Joseph's shoulder, as Joseph tries to avoid the shot.

Joseph defending well as Sato loads up on a big left hand.

John Joseph seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Sato thows a left - swing and a miss!
Sato throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Joseph tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Sato is able to avoid easily.
Joseph with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Sato to score with a decent uppercut.
Joseph lands with a shot to the body.
Joseph pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Joseph ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Sato throws a good cross that connects.

Joseph is still on wobbly legs! Can Sato finish him?
Joseph looks up at the clock. Bad move! Sato lands a right hand from hell, dropping Joseph. Sato pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:37 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Higashi Sato!
Higashi Sato spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
John Joseph spoke after the fight, saying 'Bullshit!'.
