PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Simon Bruce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Sapp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bruce kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is I want it all. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Simon Bruce!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Bob Sapp!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Ren Mimura and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bruce walks into a left hand.


It looks like Simon Bruce has been cut.
Bruce displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Sapp throws out the jab.
Sapp misses with a body shot.
Sapp misses with an uppercut.
Bruce's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Sapp connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Bruce scrambles back to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bruce throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

and Bruce counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Sapp is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Bruce throws an elbow that misses. Sapp uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Bruce's guard. Nice move by Sapp!
Sapp postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Sapp thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Sapp drops an elbow to the side of Bruce's head.

Bruce has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sapp is in close to Bruce's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Sapp working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Bruce is pulling down on Sapp's head to control his posture.
Sapp told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Sapp is looking to take a break and control but Bruce is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Bob Sapp seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Bruce counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Sapp's guard now.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bruce accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Bruce is looking to work some ground and pound but Sapp has wrist control.

Sapp tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bruce was well out of range. Poor timing from Sapp.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Sapp enables Bruce to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Sapp manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Sapp throws a right and a left that Bruce avoids nicely.
Sapp throws a lazy right hand but Bruce sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Sapp throws a left and a right that both miss
and Bruce counters with a head kick that crumples his opponent - he's in a world of trouble! Bruce looks at the referee who does nothing so Bruce lands a crushing right that sends Sapp to the floor! This time the ref steps in to end the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Simon Bruce!
Simon Bruce decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
