PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Anderson Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michal Materla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Materla has chosen Sobota - Do góry łeb as his entrance music. Michal Materla is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Michal Materla!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Illya Tyunina and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Materla shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Silva is trying to defend but Materla finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Materla is looking to advance position but Silva won't allow it.

Materla is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Materla looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Materla is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Silva is just riding it out for now. Materla eventually gives up the hold.

Silva is not content to let Materla control the position.
Materla is nestled in close to Silva, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Materla is looking for a kimura here.
Materla seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Silva tries to get to full guard but Materla has control of the leg.
Materla throwing shots but Silva is blocking nicely.
Materla is trying to control the action in half guard but Silva is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Materla stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Silva swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Silva throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Materla's waist but Materla gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Silva off to one side.

Silva drops down looking for an ankle pick but Materla pulls his leg out and moves away.

Silva is trying to break the clinch but Materla has him pressed against the cage.

Materla wants to stand up but Silva has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Materla is working for a kimura but Silva is defending it quite comfortably.
Silva wants to improve his position but Materla is controlling well.

Materla is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Silva is just riding it out for now. Materla eventually gives up the hold.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Materla connects with a nice short shot to Silva's temple.

Materla perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Materla wanted to stand there but Silva had control of the position.
Silva can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Materla controls the pace.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Michal Materla has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Materla forces Silva back against the cage and clinches.

Materla's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Silva looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Silva has his takedown stuffed

and Materla counters by moving into the clinch.

Silva is fighting off a takedown attempt but Materla is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Silva to the mat. Silva regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Silva is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Michal Materla showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Materla connects with a nice short shot to Silva's temple.

Silva is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Silva tries to kick Materla off but Materla keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Materla perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Materla is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Silva doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Materla.

Materla scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Silva tries to roll over but Materla keeps him under control.
Materla not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Let's hope that Materla has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Michal Materla comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Materla has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
