PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tomasz Drwal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dutch Schaeffer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Drwal comes to the cage accompanied by Nightwish Crimson Tide . The crowd seem to be enjoying Schaeffer's choice of entrance music: Long Tall Sally. The key to victory for Tomasz Drwal has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 21 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tomasz Drwal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dutch Schaeffer!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paul Aken and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drwal throws a head kick that Schaeffer semi-blocks.


It looks like Dutch Schaeffer has been cut.
Drwal tries to clinch there but Schaeffer circles away.
Drwal lands with a nice body punch.
Drwal dips to his left and cracks Schaeffer with an uppercut!


Schaeffer is rocked!
Drwal tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Schaeffer manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Schaeffer tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Drwal paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Drwal throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Schaeffer is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Drwal can't fight it off and eventually Schaeffer manages to take the fight to the floor. Drwal looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Schaeffer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Drwal swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Schaeffer prevents Drwal from getting back to his feet.
Drwal throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Schaeffer wants to lay and pray for a moment but Drwal keeps working.

Schaeffer goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Drwal rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Schaeffer's guard! Nice work there by Drwal!

Schaeffer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Drwal doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Drwal manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Drwal wanted to stand there but Schaeffer had control of the position.

Drwal throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Schaeffer sees it coming and avoids it easily.

I was talking to Drwal's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Drwal escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Drwal bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Schaeffer's head.

Drwal rushes Schaeffer and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

A nice left hand lands by Drwal.
Drwal lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Schaeffer backwards.

Drwal's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Schaeffer misses with a left hand
and Drwal counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Schaeffer is still on wobbly legs! Can Drwal finish him?
Schaeffer misses the jab.
Schaeffer scores with a hook.

Drwal throws a big overhand right that connects, sending Schaeffer tumbling to the canvas!
Drwal wants to stand but Schaeffer has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Drwal decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Schaeffer, up you get!

Drwal is trying to push Schaeffer away but Schaeffer has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Schaeffer has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Drwal avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Schaeffer seems to have recovered his senses.
Schaeffer fails to pull guard.
Schaeffer tries to score a body lock takedown but Drwal shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Drwal digs a right hand underneath Schaeffer's ribcage. Schaeffer let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Schaeffer is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Schaeffer has Drwal pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Drwal manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Schaeffer ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Schaeffer no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Schaeffer is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Schaeffer takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Drwal lands with a kick to the temple. Schaeffer shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Drwal ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Drwal tries to clinch up but Schaeffer circles away and keeps his distance.

Drwal lands a left hand that snaps the head of Schaeffer backwards.
Drwal is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Schaeffer is trying to pull guard but Drwal turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Schaeffer is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Drwal is defending well.

Drwal blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Drwal is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
