Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alex Gonzales (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wanderlei Menezes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alex Gonzales!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wanderlei Menezes!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Felipe Paraventi and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slapping leg kick lands for Gonzales.
Gonzales has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Gonzales really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Menezes throws a chopping leg kick but Gonzales manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Gonzales shoots for a double leg takedown but Menezes sprawls well. He's pushed Gonzales's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Menezes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gonzales's waist but Gonzales gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Menezes off to one side.
Alex Gonzales seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Good leg kick by Gonzales there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Menezes looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Gonzales changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Menezes looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Menezes seems to be working for a kimura but Gonzales defends the submission attempt.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Menezes lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Menezes connects with a nice short shot to Gonzales's temple.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Menezes in particular looking to stall.

Menezes seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gonzales does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Well Menezes has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
