PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rafael Amaral (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Prince Valor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Valor comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Bad Religion - Dept. of False Hope kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rafael Amaral!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Prince Valor!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valor misses with a hook. Amaral ducked under it nicely.
Valor dodges the punch combination from Amaral.
Amaral pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Amaral with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Valor has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Valor there as he acknowledges the shot.
Amaral throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Valor counters with a stiff right hand.
Amaral tries to bum rush Valor with a series of wild strikes but Valor uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

and Valor counters with a nice uppercut.
Amaral jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Valor is looking to clinch.
Valor tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Amaral paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Valor counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Amaral steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Valor.
Valor fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Valor closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Amaral escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Valor tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Amaral manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Valor blocks a jab.
Amaral's jab looks to have found its range, popping Valor under the eye.
Amaral throws a head kick that misses.
Amaral thuds his shin into the meat of Valor's side.
Amaral lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Valor counters by moving into the clinch.
Valor is trying to maintain a safe position but Amaral gets an underhook and turns Valor into the cage.
Amaral pushes off an throws an elbow but Valor leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Valor works on Amaral's body with a couple of short punches.
Amaral trying to control the position but instead, Valor has worked for underhooks and has pushed Amaral into the cage.

Valor tries a body shot but Amaral blocks it.

Amaral can't break the clinch.
Valor cracks Amaral with a nice body shot.
Amaral wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Amaral tries to break free but Valor pushes him back against the cage.

Amaral moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Valor throws a hook but Amaral blocks it.

Amaral's corner calls for a 1-2. Amaral obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Amaral moves in looking to clinch but Valor pushes him off.
Valor tries to close the distance and clinch up but Amaral swats him away and circles back towards the center.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Valor is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Amaral.
A left lands for Amaral.
Valor wants to clinch but Amaral slips to the side
and Amaral counters with a nice body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rafael Amaral will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Amaral is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Valor dives in and scores a takedown into Amaral's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

We've been hearing good reports from Amaral's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Amaral stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Valor swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Amaral bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Valor's head backwards.

Valor might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Amaral fires a straight punch through the middle that cracks Valor square on the jaw! Damn, Valor is out cold on his feet and topples face first to the canvas! Wow, I haven't seen a knockout that brutal in a long time!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Rafael Amaral!
A relieved looking Rafael Amaral thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
