PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Carneiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raphael Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carneiro comes into the arena with The Rasmus - In the Shadows blaring out of the sound system. Daniel Carneiro could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Raphael Davis's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Daniel Carneiro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Raphael Davis!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Ackerman and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davis tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Carneiro manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Carneiro darts in and clinches Davis up against the cage.

Davis ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Davis no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Carneiro trying to stand up but can't free himself from Davis's guard.
Davis bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Carneiro's guard.
Davis won't allow Carneiro to sweep him here.
Davis throws a big elbow that misses.

Davis must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Carneiro lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Davis!

Davis looking to score a takedown here. Carneiro is defending well but Davis drives through and ends up in Carneiro's guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Daniel Carneiro just wasn't active enough.

Davis dives in and scores a takedown into Carneiro's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Carneiro manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Davis manages to get himself to full guard.

Davis manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Davis will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Davis shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Davis is looking to take a break and control but Carneiro is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Carneiro tries to get to full guard but Davis has control of the leg.
Still in half guard, Davis seems content to control.
Carneiro is looking to control Davis's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Carneiro avoid being mounted?
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Davis is trying to control. Carneiro wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Raphael Davis hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Davis looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Davis wants to stand but Carneiro is controlling his posture from full guard.
Carneiro has his hands on Davis's head, controlling the position.
Carneiro manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Carneiro is standing up, even though he is in mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Raphael Davis dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Carneiro misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Carneiro throws a series of punches but Davis avoids them all with ease.
Carneiro blocks a head kick by Davis.

Davis shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Carneiro is trying to defend but Davis finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Davis is trying to control. Carneiro wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Davis is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Carneiro makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Carneiro.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carneiro wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Davis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Carneiro swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Davis would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Davis throwing strikes from guard but Carneiro blocks nicely.
Raphael Davis has got the better of the ground game so far.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Davis closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Carneiro's guard.
Davis is breathing heavily.

Carneiro escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Davis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Carneiro seems keen to control Davis's posture.

Davis wants to control from the top but Carneiro keeps moving.
Davis is looking to stand up but Carneiro won't let him.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Carneiro pulls Davis in close to his closed guard and prevents Davis from doing any damage or advancing position.

Daniel Carneiro has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Davis closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Carneiro's guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Raphael Davis wasn't active enough on the ground.
Davis chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Carneiro can pounce on him.
Davis takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Left hook, right uppercut from Carneiro.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Carneiro scores to the head and body with a nice combination!


Davis is rocked!
Davis closes the distance looking to clinch
and Carneiro counters with a huge left! Davis is in big trouble! He's backing up but Carneiro isn't giving him chance to recover. Under a barage of punches the ref has to step in to save Davis from any more damage. A dominating finish by Carneiro!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:15 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Daniel Carneiro!
A determined Daniel Carneiro didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
