PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Ross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nicolas Barcos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ross comes to the cage accompanied by Limp Bizkit-My way or the high way. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Ross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nicolas Barcos!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, William Peck and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Barcos closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Ross tries to get to full guard but Barcos has control of the leg.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Barcos lands a nice short elbow.
Barcos takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Ross is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ross is working hard here to advance position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Barcos looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ross with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Barcos winds up and cracks Ross with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Barcos drops an elbow to the side of Ross's head.

Barcos looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Barcos is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Barcos scores with a couple of good hammerfists.


It looks like John Ross has been cut.
Ross is looking for a sweep. Barcos is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Barcos lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barcos is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Barcos lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Barcos is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Ross is trying to stand up here but Barcos is controlling him well.

Ross looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Barcos working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.


John Ross's cut is getting worse.

Jeez, John Ross's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at John Ross's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Nicolas Barcos!
A relieved looking Nicolas Barcos thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
John Ross spoke after the fight, saying 'what can i say the other guy was just better.. congrats.. but our paths will cross again'.
