Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Andy Burns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mendy Ripstein!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burns circles away from the clinch attempt.
Burns misses with a hook. Ripstein ducked under it nicely.
Burns shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ripstein but Ripstein pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Sloppy strikes from Burns. Those never looked like landing.
Burns looks to land a combination but Ripstein avoids it well.
Burns tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Ripstein defends well and Burns ends up having to push Ripstein into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Burns jumps guard but Ripstein stands there with Burns around his waist. Burns gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Burns fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Burns tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ripstein smiles and moves away.

Burns closes the distance and clinches up with Ripstein, looking for a takedown. Burns pushes Ripstein against the cage but Ripstein circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Ripstein clinches up with Burns and pushes him back against the cage.
Ripstein is trying to force a seperation but Burns has the dominant position.
Burns jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ripstein walks away with a smile on his face. Burns gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Ripstein takes the fight into the clinch.
Ripstein wants to get back to striking at distance but Burns won't allow it.

Ripstein told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight.

Burns prevents a body shot from Ripstein.
Ripstein wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

and Ripstein connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Ripstein leaves Burns with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

A short body shot lands from Ripstein as the two fighters clinch.

Ripstein swings for the body but Burns moves out of range.
Burns tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ripstein sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Burns somewhat.

Burns is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.
Burns lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Burns doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Ripstein counters with a left and a right that stings Burns.

and Ripstein counters with a series of strikes. Burns will be more careful next time no doubt.
Burns shoots for a double leg takedown but Ripstein sprawls well. He's pushed Burns's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Burns thows a body shot but no joy.
A left and a right from Ripstein both land. Nice combination.
Ripstein uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Burns.
Ripstein throws a right and a left that both miss.
Ripstein slips a jab and a cross from Burns.
Burns avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Burns fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Ripstein throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Burns looks to score with a jab to the body but Ripstein is just out of range.
Burns shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ripstein as he jumps to the side.
Burns throws a right hand that Ripstein ducks under and follows up with a left that Ripstein also avoids with ease.

Ripstein is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Ripstein darts in and clinches Burns up against the cage.
Ripstein breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Burns throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Ripstein was covering up waiting for the punch and Burns finishes the takedown easily into guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Ripstein is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Burns dives into side control.

Burns in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Ripstein is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

In his post fight interview, Andy Burns started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
