PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Frank Hammer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Suchart Chaowanungkarn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hammer comes to the cage accompanied by We are the Champions. Chaowanungkarn is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Muay Thai fight music. Frank Hammer is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frank Hammer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 24 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Suchart Chaowanungkarn!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Ben Hemmingworth and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A good leg kick by Chaowanungkarn.
Chaowanungkarn pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Hammer ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Chaowanungkarn throws a predictable looking body shot
and Hammer counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Hammer looks to throw the jab but Chaowanungkarn is out of range.
A looping hook to the body misses from Hammer. Chaowanungkarn does a little dance to reset his feet.
Hammer tries for a takedown but Chaowanungkarn sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Chaowanungkarn has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Chaowanungkarn keeping moving, preventing Hammer from controlling successfully.
Hammer engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Hammer trying to control but Chaowanungkarn is working from the bottom.

We're going to have a standup here because Frank Hammer wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
A lazy left from Hammer finds it's target.
Hammer will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Chaowanungkarn throws a right hand that misses

and Hammer counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Chaowanungkarn managing to control the position.
Chaowanungkarn looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hammer is one step ahead there.
Hammer stays in close to Chaowanungkarn's body and controls the position.
Chaowanungkarn told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Chaowanungkarn looking for a sweep. Not yet Chaowanungkarn, not yet.
Hammer in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Chaowanungkarn is on top in guard.
Hammer looking to hit a scissor sweep but Chaowanungkarn is one step ahead there.
Hammer controls Chaowanungkarn momentarily but Chaowanungkarn frees himself.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hammer throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Chaowanungkarn escapes and throws Hammer's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Hammer is looking for a sweep.
Chaowanungkarn controlling the position from side mount.
Hammer tries to buck Chaowanungkarn off but Chaowanungkarn is having none of it.
Chaowanungkarn is looking to take a break and control but Hammer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Chaowanungkarn remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

A bit of a lull in the action here.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
You can see the frustration on Hammer's face as Chaowanungkarn controls the position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Suchart Chaowanungkarn hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Chaowanungkarn goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Chaowanungkarn keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Suchart Chaowanungkarn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hammer chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Chaowanungkarn can pounce on him.
Chaowanungkarn throws a low kick, looking for Hammer's leg but Hammer calmly moves out of range.
Chaowanungkarn tries a head kick but it misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hammer misses with a wild body shot.
Hammer tries to move into range but Chaowanungkarn moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Hammer takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Chaowanungkarn throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Suchart Chaowanungkarn will probably get the nod.
That's time! Hammer's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Hammer tests Chaowanungkarn's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Chaowanungkarn lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Chaowanungkarn connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Chaowanungkarn keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Hammer takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Chaowanungkarn throws the kick towards the body but Hammer avoids it.
Chaowanungkarn stuns Hammer with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Hammer takes a swing at Chaowanungkarn's ribcage but misses.

Hammer looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hammer wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chaowanungkarn keeps working.

Hammer is working for a submission of some sort.

Chaowanungkarn makes his way to full guard, as Hammer worked for a kimura.
Hammer wants to control from the top but Chaowanungkarn keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hammer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chaowanungkarn swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hammer has gone for a leg lock! Chaowanungkarn slips out almost immediately though and dives into Hammer's guard.

Hammer had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Chaowanungkarn defends it easily.
Chaowanungkarn must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Hammer manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Chaowanungkarn manages to get himself to full guard.

Hammer is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Chaowanungkarn is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Chaowanungkarn has escaped and now he's on top!

Chaowanungkarn slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Hammer has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Chaowanungkarn can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Chaowanungkarn postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Hammer is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Frank Hammer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hammer seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Hammer tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Chaowanungkarn trying to control the position from guard on top but Hammer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Chaowanungkarn is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Suchart Chaowanungkarn.
Hammer dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Chaowanungkarn lands with a kick to the temple. Hammer shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

That was a close second round but I would say that Frank Hammer will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Chaowanungkarn tried to score with a low kick but Hammer checks it.
Hammer is looking to wear down Chaowanungkarn with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Hammer misses the shot to the body.
That kick from Chaowanungkarn tenderised Hammer's leg. Hammer is trying to keep his angry face on.
Chaowanungkarn slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Chaowanungkarn throws out a loose jab but Hammer uses good head movement to avoid it.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Hammer crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Chaowanungkarn - the referee stops the clock and Hammer gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Chaowanungkarn. Hammer manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Chaowanungkarn cracks a nice hook into Hammer's ribs.
Chaowanungkarn leaves Hammer with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Hammer with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Chaowanungkarn to score with a decent uppercut.

Oh Hammer is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hammer seems to have got his legs back now.
Chaowanungkarn lands with a nice body punch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Chaowanungkarn fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Hammer has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

A decent looking cross lands there for Chaowanungkarn.
Chaowanungkarn dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Hammer on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Chaowanungkarn. Chaowanungkarn obviously looking to wear him down.
Chaowanungkarn works the jab nicely.
Chaowanungkarn sizes up Hammer with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Hammer misses with a wild body shot.
Chaowanungkarn fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Hammer.

Hammer uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Chaowanungkarn.
Chaowanungkarn circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Hammer to the canvas! Hammer doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Chaowanungkarn keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:41 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Suchart Chaowanungkarn!
