PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jody Sloan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and RikI Machida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jody Sloan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, RikI Machida!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Kenichi Hosakawa and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machida misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Machida looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Sloan clinches.
Machida wants to stall.
Machida is trying to break the clinch but Sloan has him pressed against the cage.

Sloan manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Sloan has his feet on Machida's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Sloan closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Sloan lands a nice short elbow.

Machida tries to roll over but Sloan keeps him under control.
Sloan is controlling the pace.

Sloan perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Machida is trying to get back to full guard.

Sloan escapes and gets back to his feet.

Machida gets tackled into the cage by Sloan. Sloan maintains the clinch.

Sloan breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Sloan clinches up with Machida and pushes him back against the cage.
Machida is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Sloan manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Sloan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Machida won't allow Sloan to get back to his feet.
Sloan controls Machida momentarily but Machida frees himself.

Sloan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Machida doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Machida manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
This has been an exciting period of action!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

You can see the frustration on Sloan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Sloan sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Machida is trying to control the action in half guard but Sloan is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Sloan dodges the punch combination from Machida.
Sloan wants to clinch up but Machida keeps it at a distance.
Machida missing with a left hand there. Sloan was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Sloan pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Sloan gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Machida has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Sloan clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Even with his hooks in, Machida manages to miss with strikes from the back.

Machida is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Sloan has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

What can Sloan do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

A close second round but RikI Machida will probably get the nod - 10:9.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Sloan rushes Machida and presses him up against the cage.
Machida has a couple of punches blocked by Sloan.
Machida is trying to break the clinch but Sloan has him pressed against the cage.

Machida pulls guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sloan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Sloan controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Sloan keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Machida's head.

Sloan stands up and waves to Machida to follow him.

Sloan has Machida pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Sloan pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Machida tumbling to the mat - Sloan dives into Machida's guard.
Sloan wants to control from the top but Machida keeps moving.

Machida tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jody Sloan just wasn't active enough.

Sloan shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Machida napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Sloan is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Machida knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Sloan lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Jody Sloan showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Sloan has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
