The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kurse throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Machida shoots and misses

and Kurse counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Machida is looking to improve his position.

Kurse is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Machida sees it coming and defends easily.
Kurse wants to take a breather but Machida is having none of it.
Kurse trying to mount his opponent but Machida defends it.
Kurse prevents Machida from improving his position.

Kurse is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Kurse is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Machida is just riding it out for now. Kurse eventually gives up the hold.

Kurse is trying to work for a kimura but Machida is defending well.

Machida gets full guard.

Machida had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kurse defends it easily.
We've been hearing that Kurse has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Machida is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Kurse drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Kurse seems to have locked his on tight now - Machida screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Kurse, as he picks up the win!
