The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shirou Masuda and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Materla shoots for a takedown but Slinger saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Materla darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Slinger looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Materla keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Materla thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Materla seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Materla thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Slinger's head.
Materla wants to pass the guard but Slinger is defending well.
Materla sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Slinger defending well though.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Materla is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Materla content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Materla maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Slinger could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Materla has cracked it and Slinger is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Materla!
