PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jim Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Clay Guida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Clay Guida told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Clay Guida!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Stewart Dunkirk and Frank Dennis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guida fails to land with a series of punches.

Miller takes the fight into the clinch.

Miller breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jim Miller seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Guida shoots in for a takedown but Miller shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Miller has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Soul Supremacy Elite Gym in the buildup to the fight.

Miller feints and as Guida raises his hands in defense, Miller changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Guida is looking to stand up but Miller isn't so interested in that idea.
Miller postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Miller chips away with some ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Miller accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Miller has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Guida is looking to stand up but Miller isn't so interested in that idea.

Miller gets to his feet. Guida looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Miller darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Miller is trying to control. Guida wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Miller decides to stand up.
Miller is looking to clinch but Guida is avoiding it.

Miller throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Guida was covering up waiting for the punch and Miller finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Guida has his foot on Miller's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Miller works his way back into a safe position though.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Guida bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Guida grinds an elbow into Miller's temple.

Guida thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Miller is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Guida off and has taken his back!

Miller looks up at the clock and then as Guida takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Miller smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Guida takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Guida takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Miller decides to take the fight back to the feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Miller is defended easily by Guida.
Guida misses with a head kick.
Guida seems to have recovered his senses.
Miller shoots in for a double leg but Guida sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Guida is sitting in close to Miller's body. Miller has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Guida is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Guida is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Miller.
