PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bayden Wood Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thuam Chaka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chaka is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Heart of a Champion. Thuam Chaka is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Thuam Chaka!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Chaka fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Wood Jr , pushing him back against the cage.
Chaka is trying to break the clinch but Wood Jr is controlling him.

Chaka pulls guard effortlessly.
Wood Jr wants to pass the guard but Chaka is keeping the position.
Wood Jr stopping the sweep attempt from Chaka.
Chaka is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Wood Jr is controlling him.
Wood Jr has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Chaka escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wood Jr gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

We've been hearing good reports from Wood Jr 's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Wood Jr got a little sloppy there for a moment and Chaka has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wood Jr has managed to get both his arms back between Chaka's legs - danger averted.

We're going to have a standup here because Bayden Wood Jr wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Wood Jr closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Chaka did well to prevent Wood Jr getting side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Chaka won't allow Wood Jr to pass to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thuam Chaka dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Chaka sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Wood Jr 's guard.

Chaka is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Wood Jr defends it well.

Chaka is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Wood Jr doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Chaka.

Wood Jr closes this distance looking for a takedown but Chaka circles away.
Chaka shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Wood Jr but Wood Jr pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Thuam Chaka seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Chaka bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wood Jr 's guard.

Chaka stands and steps away. Wood Jr gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Chaka takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Wood Jr has a couple of punches blocked by Chaka.

Chaka has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Wood Jr should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Chaka has tightened it up now! Wood Jr should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

During a confident post fight interview, Thuam Chaka thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
