Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kelvin Pouncey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jon Hawkman!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Santiago Holmes and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Pouncey is defended easily by Hawkman.
Pouncey tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hawkman was well out of range. Poor timing from Pouncey.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Hawkman enables Pouncey to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hawkman manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Pouncey slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Pouncey has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hawkman is proving hard to escape from.

Hawkman is controlling Pouncey's posture.
Pouncey slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Kelvin Pouncey just wasn't active enough.

Pouncey moves into the clinch successfully.
Hawkman wants to break the clinch but can't.
Hawkman has Pouncey pressed against the cage, preventing Pouncey from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Pouncey jumps guard.
Pouncey on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Pouncey tries to get out of the position.
Pouncey keeping moving, preventing Hawkman from controlling successfully.
Pouncey seems keen to control Hawkman's posture.
Pouncey is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Hawkman passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Pouncey tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hawkman wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Hawkman wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pouncey keeps working.
Hawkman tries to score with some ground and pound. Pouncey controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Hawkman trying to control the position but Pouncey is working away.
Pouncey is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hawkman stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Hawkman fails with a takedown attempt.

and Pouncey counters with a one-two to the body.
Hawkman looks winded!
Hawkman throws a head kick that misses.
Pouncey looks to land a body kick but Hawkman moved away.

Pouncey moves into the clinch.
Hawkman is trying to stall.

Pouncey wants the takedown. Hawkman is fighting it off but Pouncey persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Hawkman's guard against the cage.
Hawkman controls Pouncey momentarily but Pouncey frees himself.
Pouncey is looking to work some ground and pound but Hawkman has wrist control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hawkman being controlled here, momentarily.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hawkman controls Pouncey momentarily but Pouncey frees himself.
Pouncey stays in close to Hawkman's body and controls the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Pouncey is trying hard to land a takedown here. Hawkman sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hawkman closes the distance but Pouncey moves to the side

and Pouncey counters by moving into the clinch.
Hawkman has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kelvin Pouncey dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Pouncey shoots in but no luck this time.

Pouncey rushes Hawkman and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Hawkman has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Pouncey lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Pouncey breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Pouncey darts in trying to clinch
and Hawkman counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Hawkman throws a right and a left that both miss.
Hawkman wants to clinch.
Hawkman tries for a takedown but Pouncey sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pouncey swings away with a body shot that misses
and Hawkman counters with a nice uppercut.
Hawkman tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Pouncey counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Pouncey.
Pouncey lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Hawkman is breathing heavily.
Pouncey is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Pouncey successfully pulls guard.
Pouncey looking for a sweep. Not yet Pouncey, not yet.
Pouncey is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Pouncey here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Hawkman won't allow Pouncey to pass to mount.
Pouncey winds up and cracks Hawkman with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Pouncey takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pouncey slips a nice elbow through Hawkman's hands, connecting with Hawkman's forehead.
Well, if Pouncey is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Pouncey in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Hawkman tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Pouncey!
