PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Isaiah Martinez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andre Chekov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and George Francis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Chekov clinches.
Martinez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Chekov's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Martinez is trying to force a seperation but Chekov has the dominant position.
Martinez pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Chekov turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Chekov manages to end up in side control.
Chekov moves into full mount!

Chekov swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Martinez is now in Chekov's guard. A big mistake from Chekov there, giving up the dominant position!
Martinez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Chekov has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Martinez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Chekov can do anything to dispel that myth.

Chekov bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Martinez's guard.
Chekov is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Chekov drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Martinez manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Chekov has Martinez in his guard.

Martinez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Chekov has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Martinez has managed to get both his arms back between Chekov's legs - danger averted.

We're going to have a standup here because Isaiah Martinez wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Martinez gets caught napping as Chekov dives in and scores a takedown. Martinez manages to retain guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Martinez has momentary wrist control but Chekov slips an elbow through the middle.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Martinez is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Chekov has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Chekov cracks Martinez with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Martinez is bucking up trying to escape but Chekov cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chekov is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Martinez can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Chekov wants to finish this one by submission but Martinez is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Chekov.

Chekov is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Martinez to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Martinez shrugs it off.

Chekov sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Martinez's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Martinez has hold of Chekov's hands but Chekov slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Martinez is not content to let Chekov control the position.
