PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Darius Chan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rock Trumble (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Darius Chan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rock Trumble!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Yves DeLean and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Trumble looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Chan blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Trumble is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Chan to keep the fight standing.
Trumble trying to stall but Chan improves his position.
Chan is looking to break free of the clinch but Trumble has double underhooks.
Trumble has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Chan is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Chan has Trumble pushed against the cage.
Trumble wants to get back to striking at distance but Chan won't allow it.

Trumble manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Chan sitting in guard here, content to control.
Chan pushes down on Trumble's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Chan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Chan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Trumble looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Well, if Chan is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Chan is working for a submission of some sort.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Trumble blocking the ground and pound attempt from Chan.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chan tries to pass the half guard into mount. Trumble knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Trumble trying to control from the bottom.

Chan is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Trumble defends it well.

Chan is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Trumble is just riding it out for now. Chan eventually gives up the hold.
Chan content to control rather than advance.

Chan thows a huge punch but Trumble dodges it nicely.
Chan frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Chan controlling his opponent.
Chan throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Chan thowing shots but they're missing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Darius Chan dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Trumble displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Chan.
Chan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Trumble moves away.
Chan connects with a looping right hand.
Chan lands a nice shot that snaps Trumble's head back.
Chan shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Trumble defends it nicely.
Chan tries for a takedown but Trumble sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Darius Chan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Trumble tries to clinch there but Chan circles away.
Chan shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Trumble defends it nicely.
Trumble throws out a leg kick but Chan moves out of range and Trumble only half commits.
Trumble is breathing heavily.

Trumble swats away the attempt to clinch by Chan.
Chan shoots in looking for a takedown but Trumble manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Chan's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Trumble changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Chan tries to avoid it but Trumble manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Chan to the ground. Chan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Chan gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Chan has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Trumble avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Chan gets control of Trumble's arms and successfully pulls guard. Chan will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Chan wriggles free and stands up.
Chan looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Trumble is fending him off so far but Chan persists. Nope, Trumble circles away and we're back to standing.

Trumble stuffs the takedown.

Chan clinches up with Trumble and pushes him back against the cage.
Trumble tries to pull guard but Chan won't allow it.
Chan has had enough of the clinch but Trumble keeps him there for the moment.
Trumble taking a breather.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Chan with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Chan is trying to break the clinch but Trumble has him pressed against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Chan's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Chan manages to pull guard.
Chan wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Trumble won't allow Chan to sweep him here.

Chan has his foot on Trumble's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Trumble works his way back into a safe position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Trumble working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Chan is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Trumble is trying to stall.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Chan has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Chan has Trumble pushed against the cage.
Trumble tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Chan just stands there and leans against the cage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Chan jumps guard and drags Trumble to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Trumble looking to sit in guard and control but Chan gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Darius Chan dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Trumble leaves Chan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Chan darts in looking for a takedown but Trumble gets double underhooks and turns Chan into the cage.
Chan is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Trumble tries to pull guard but Chan holds him up against the cage and eventually Trumble drops back down to his feet.
Chan is trying to push Trumble away but Trumble has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Chan just leaning against Trumble, taking a breather.
Trumble takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Chan is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Trumble to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Darius Chan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Trumble keeps control of Chan as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Chan jumps into guard, dragging Trumble to the mat.
Darius Chan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Chan uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Chan fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Chan misses with a body kick.

Chan closes the distance and clinches.
Chan has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Trumble after a bit of a struggle.
Chan drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Trumble tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Chan just stands there and leans against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Chan pulls guard.
Trumble trying to control the position from guard on top but Chan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Chan pulls Trumble in to control the position.
Trumble wants to control from the top but Chan keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Rock Trumble.
Trumble blocks a leg kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chan shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Trumble sprawls well. Trumble wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Chan gets slowly back to his feet.
Chan fails to land the takedown.
Trumble fails with a takedown attempt.
Chan fails to land the takedown.
Donk. Trumble catches Chan right on the button with a cross.
Chan shoots in for a takedown but Trumble shows good takedown defense.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Trumble shoots in and bounces Chan off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Trumble postures up.

Chan is looking for a triangle but Trumble pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Trumble being controlled here momentarily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Trumble throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

And that's the end of the fight!
Darius Chan showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Chan has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
