PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Major Lazer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lazer comes to the cage accompanied by Major Lazer - Pon De Floor. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Major Lazer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Chuck Smith!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Dmitry Maklakov and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith lands a left and a right that send Lazer crashing to the mat, dazed. Smith thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


It looks like Major Lazer has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Smith wants to clinch but Lazer slips to the side

and Lazer counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Lazer engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lazer won't allow Smith to get back to his feet.
Lazer trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom.
Lazer looking to sit in guard and control but Smith gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Smith has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Lazer is proving hard to escape from.
Lazer controls Smith momentarily but Smith frees himself.

Lazer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smith doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smith manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith is looking to stand up but Lazer won't let him.
Smith being controlled here momentarily.
Lazer looking to hit a scissor sweep but Smith is one step ahead there.

Lazer looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Smith has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Lazer is proving hard to escape from.
Smith postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith stopping the sweep attempt from Lazer.
Lazer controls Smith momentarily but Smith frees himself.
Smith is looking to stand up but Lazer won't let him.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Smith tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Lazer counters with a nice double leg into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Lazer missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Smith is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Lazer is controlling him.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Lazer with a flurry of punches that miss.
Lazer trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lazer accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Smith is looking to stand up but Lazer isn't so interested in that idea.
Lazer trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Smith wants to stand up but Lazer is controlling him.
Lazer wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Lazer works over Smith with some ground and pound from guard.
Smith avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Smith keeping moving, preventing Lazer from controlling successfully.
Lazer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Smith wants to get back to his feet but Lazer is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lazer missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Lazer throws an elbow that misses. Smith uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Lazer's guard. Nice move by Smith!
Lazer is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Lazer is working hard here to advance position.

Lazer is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Smith is aware though and is defending well.
Smith wants to stand but Lazer has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Lazer has his foot on Smith's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Smith works his way back into a safe position though.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Smith wants to stand but Lazer is controlling his posture from full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Major Lazer will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Major Lazer's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Smith closes the distance and clinches.
Smith lands a nice elbow.
Nice elbow from Smith.
Smith controlling the action here for a moment.
Smith using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Lazer has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Smith lands a nice knee to the body.
Lazer drops down looking for an ankle pick but Smith pulls his leg out and moves away.
Smith tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lazer swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Nice takedown defense from Smith. No joy for Lazer on that attempt.
No luck for Lazer with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Major Lazer. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Horrible takedown by Lazer or perhaps it was just good defense by Smith which made him look bad.

Lazer keeps the fight on the outside.
Smith tries to clinch but Lazer moves away

and Lazer counters with a shoot takedown. Smith fights it but they end up in guard.
Lazer works over Smith with some ground and pound from guard.
Lazer pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Smith is keeping the position for now.
Lazer lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Smith wants to stand and escape but Lazer is having none of it.
Lazer throws a big elbow that misses.
Smith keeping moving, preventing Lazer from controlling successfully.
Lazer is really struggling to control Smith but he's trying to hold on to the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lazer scoring with punches to the head and body.
Major Lazer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Smith wants to stand but Lazer is controlling the position.
Lazer forces his way into half guard.
Smith looks like he's trying to stand up.
Lazer throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Lazer prevents Smith from standing back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lazer is looking to stall here but Smith recovers full guard.
Lazer working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Smith is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Lazer wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.
Smith wants to stand but Lazer is controlling the position.
Lazer trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Lazer works over Smith with some ground and pound from guard.

Lazer stops Smith from standing up.
Lazer is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Lazer trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom.
Lazer throwing strikes from guard but Smith blocks nicely.
Lazer engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Major Lazer just wasn't active enough.
Lazer fails with a takedown attempt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Smith pushes Lazer up against the cage in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Major Lazer dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Major Lazer's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Smith clinches.
Smith lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Lazer drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Smith is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Smith is trying to maintain a safe position but Lazer gets an underhook and turns Smith into the cage.
Smith with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Lazer tries for a takedown but Smith manages to get underhooks.
Smith lands a nice elbow.
Smith misses with a knee strike.
Nice elbow from Smith.
Lazer has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Smith is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Major Lazer. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smith lands a damaging elbow.
Smith's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Knees to the body from Smith.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Smith comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Lazer is working for takedown but Smith is calmly controlling the position for now.
Lazer takes an elbow to the forehead.


Lazer is rocked!
Smith lands an elbow inside that Lazer shrugs off.
Oh Lazer is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Lazer can't get the takedown.
Smith has Lazer pressed against the cage. He pushes Lazer back and as he springs towards him off the cage, Smith throws a beautiful elbow that sends Lazer crashing to the floor! Smith piles on the pressure with more strikes! Lazer is flailing away but he's not defending himself and the referee steps in to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:44 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chuck Smith!
In his post fight interview, Chuck Smith started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
