PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Skip Torres (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sid James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Sid James was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Skip Torres!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sid James!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, William Peck and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Torres closes this distance looking for a takedown but James circles away.
James takes a swing at Torres's ribcage but misses.
James misses with a hook

and Torres counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Torres trying to mount his opponent but James defends it.
James told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
James is refusing to be controlled, as Torres sits in half guard.

Torres seems to be looking for submissions.
Torres looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

James kicks Torres off and gets back to his feet.
Torres tries to clinch up.
Torres takes a shot to the body in his stride.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Torres darts in looking for a takedown but James gets double underhooks and turns Torres into the cage.

James keeps control of Torres as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Torres wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
James lands a hook that snaps the head of Torres backwards.

James lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Torres breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Torres tests James's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Torres takes one to the chin there.
Torres shoots in looking for a takedown. James tries to sprawl out of it but Torres keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. James manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Skip Torres. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sid James is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Torres avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Sid James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Torres shoots in but James avoids the takedown attempt easily.
James throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Torres.

Torres looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? James is fending him off so far but Torres persists. Nope, James circles away and we're back to standing.
James ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Torres moves away.
Torres looks to clinch
and James counters with a right hand to the body.
James thows a left - swing and a miss!
Sloppy strikes from James. Those never looked like landing.
James rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Torres counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
James throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Torres looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Torres connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
James throws out a loose jab but Torres uses good head movement to avoid it.

Torres has managed to clinch.
Torres prevents a body shot from James.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sid James will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

The fighters circling - James throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Torres lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as James backs up against the cage.

Torres dives in and grabs James's left leg, looking for a takedown. James pushes down on Torres's head and hops out.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Torres fails to pull the fight into his guard.

James digs a right hand underneath Torres's ribcage. Torres let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Torres goes for a double leg but James avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as James continues to drive forward.

James misses with a hook to the ribs.

Skip Torres is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Torres throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. James was covering up waiting for the punch and Torres finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Torres tries to free his leg and advance position but James is retaining full guard.

Torres chips away with some ground and pound.
James is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Torres postures up in James's guard and throws a big left but James blocks it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Torres stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. James swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A close second round but Sid James will probably get the nod - 10:9.

James jabs Torres right on the nose. Torres blinks but takes it well.
Torres uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from James.
Torres looks to land a combination but James avoids it well.
Torres drops his hands momentarily and James takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

and Torres counters with an outside leg kick.
Torres keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
James avoids the body shot from Torres.
Torres throws a head kick but James moves out of range.
James leaves Torres with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown by Torres or perhaps it was just good defense by James which made him look bad.
Torres fails to land with a series of punches.

Torres steps to the side to avoid the strikes from James.

James fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Torres, pushing him back against the cage.
Torres is trying to break the clinch but James is controlling him.

Torres escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

James lands a left and a right that send Torres crashing to the mat, dazed. James thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Torres is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Torres shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as James sprawls well. James wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Torres gets slowly back to his feet.
Oh Torres is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Skip Torres. That's going to take a lot out of him.
James misses with a body shot.
Torres bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Torres is defended easily by James.
Torres seems to have got his legs back now.
Torres tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and James is able to avoid easily.

Torres lands with a kick to the ribs.
Torres lands with an uppercut that bounces James off the cage and back into range.
James goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

James gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
James wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Torres trying to control but James is working from the bottom.
Torres won't allow James to get back to his feet.
Torres has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
James wants to sweep but no luck.
Torres trying to control the position from guard on top but James is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Torres tries to free his leg and advance position but James is retaining full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Sloppy strikes from James. Those never looked like landing.
No luck for Torres with that takedown attempt.
James throws a hook but Torres blocks it.
James throws a jab but it's blocked by Torres.
James slaps away a takedown attempt from Torres, before circling back to the center of the mat.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Torres.
Torres takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

James throws a hook but Torres blocks it.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Torres is defended easily by James.
A looping hook to the body misses from James. Torres does a little dance to reset his feet.
Donk. Torres catches James right on the button with a cross.
A jab from James finds it's way through Torres's defenses.
Torres tries a low kick but James avoids it.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Torres.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Torres uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from James.
Skip Torres has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
James loads up on a big right hand but Torres slips the punch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sid James comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got James winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
