PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ignas Panavas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Isaac Hetfield (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hetfield has chosen Point of No Return as his entrance music. The key to victory for Ignas Panavas has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Vladimir Khabensky and Fedor Mirinova.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Panavas throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Some wild striking there from Panavas.
Hetfield showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Panavas.
Panavas comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Panavas ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Hetfield feints and as Panavas raises his hands in defense, Hetfield changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Hetfield throws a big elbow that misses.
Panavas wants to stand but Hetfield is controlling the position.
Hetfield has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Hetfield wants to control from the top but Panavas keeps moving.

Panavas knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hetfield on the ground.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Isaac Hetfield wasn't active enough on the ground.

Hetfield shoots in looking for a takedown but Panavas manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hetfield's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Panavas closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Hetfield fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Panavas rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hetfield moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Hetfield fails with an attempt to clinch.
Hetfield has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Hetfield has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Panavas finds it's way round the side to connect with Hetfield's head.

Hetfield shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Panavas is trying to defend but Hetfield finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hetfield is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Panavas doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hetfield.

Hetfield throws a strike but Panavas avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Hetfield is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Panavas is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Panavas has escaped and now he's on top!

Hetfield scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Panavas feints a jab promting Hetfield to slip. Panavas then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Hetfield slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hetfield shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Panavas defends it nicely.
Ignas Panavas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Isaac Hetfield.
Hetfield tries to close the distance and clinch but Panavas swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Isaac Hetfield will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Panavas gets caught napping as Hetfield dives in and scores a takedown. Panavas manages to retain guard.
Hetfield's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Hetfield loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Hetfield drops back looking for a leg! Panavas is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Panavas manages to kick Hetfield off! Hetfield jumps back into Panavas's guard.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Isaac Hetfield hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Panavas throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hetfield moves in looking to clinch but Panavas pushes him off.
Panavas leaves Hetfield with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Hetfield fails with a takedown attempt.
Panavas scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Panavas lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Hetfield backs up against the cage.

It looks like Isaac Hetfield has been cut.
Panavas feints with a jab and clips Hetfield right behind the ear with a massive overhand right! Hetfield is sent crashing into the canvas and Panavas leaps in for the kill! Hetfield tries to get to his feet but Panavas is just battering him from every conceivable angle. The ref decides that Hetfield is in need of a savior and steps in!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ignas Panavas!
