The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Benoit shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Akiyama is trying to defend but Benoit finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Benoit trying to control from half guard but Akiyama is working away.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Benoit in particular looking to stall.
Akiyama wants to control but Benoit is keeping busy.

Akiyama prevents Benoit from getting a body triangle.
Akiyama is trying to remain composed but Benoit is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.
Akiyama takes a big shot to the side of the head.

Akiyama defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Benoit's arms.
Akiyama is covering up but some of the strikes from Benoit are getting through and doing damage.

Benoit lands a good shot there. Akiyama covers up! Benoit smells blood and goes for the finish - the referee warns Akiyama to improve his position but he's not intelligently defending himself and the referee has no choice but to step in and end the fight! Benoit jumps to his feet and celebrates the important win with his cornermen!
