Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Anthony Pettis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rick Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pettis has his takedown stuffed
and Johnson counters with a stiff right hand.
Pettis tries to close the distance and clinch up but Johnson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Pettis misses with a combination
and Johnson counters with a stiff right hand.
Pettis tries to clinch but Johnson moves away
and Johnson counters with a three punch combo that has Pettis backing up. Pettis nods at Johnson to acknowledge the strikes.
Johnson scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Pettis.
Pettis misses with a takedown
and Johnson counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anthony Pettis. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Johnson lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Pettis backs up against the cage.
Pettis shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Pettis takes the fight into the clinch.
Johnson tries to circle away but Pettis has him pinned against the cage.

Pettis tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Johnson just stands there and leans against the cage.
Pettis has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Johnson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Johnson is trying to break the clinch but Pettis is controlling him.
Johnson wants to get back to striking at distance but Pettis won't allow it.

Pettis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Pettis looks to clinch
and Johnson cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Pettis doesn't manage to clinch there - Johnson circles away.
Johnson throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Pettis shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Johnson as he jumps to the side.
Pettis is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pettis fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Johnson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Pettis.
A left and a right from Johnson both land. Nice combination.
Johnson is working the combinations to good effect here.
Pettis tries to score a power double leg takedown but Johnson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pettis somewhat.
Johnson fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Johnson misses with a wild combination.
Johnson looks to land a combination but Pettis avoids it well.
A head kick misses from Pettis.
Johnson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Pettis.
Pettis showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Johnson.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pettis wants to clinch up but Johnson keeps it at a distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rick Johnson dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Pettis shoots in for a takedown but Johnson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Pettis shoots in looking for a takedown but Johnson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Pettis's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anthony Pettis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A punch lands to the side of Pettis 's head but he takes it in his stride.

and Johnson counters with a straight right hand.
Pettis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Pettis wants to clinch but Johnson slips to the side
and Johnson counters with a series of strikes. Pettis will be more careful next time no doubt.


Pettis is rocked!
Pettis is sent reeling backwards by a solid uppercut. He barely regains his balance and Johnson moves in for the kill throwing a continuous barrage of punches that force the ref to step in.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rick Johnson!
