The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Longbottom closes the distance and clinches up with Merchant, looking for a takedown. Longbottom pushes Merchant against the cage but Merchant circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Merchant lands an overhand right.

It looks like Jim Longbottom has been cut.
Merchant has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Longbottom is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Longbottom dives in and grabs Merchant's left leg, looking for a takedown. Merchant pushes down on Longbottom's head and hops out.
Merchant scores with a jab. Longbottom acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Longbottom dives in for a single leg takedown but Merchant sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jim Longbottom. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Merchant lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Longbottom wants to take the fight to the mat but Merchant manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Merchant lands a shoulder strike.

Longbottom turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Longbottom is looking to take a break and control but Merchant is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Longbottom is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Merchant is trying to escape and Longbottom transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Merchant is forced to tap! Nice work there by Longbottom! Very nice indeed!
