PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gaseous Segason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anthony Pettis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gaseous Segason!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Anthony Pettis!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, John Kavanagh and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pettis clinches up with Segason and pushes him back against the cage.
Segason tries to circle away but Pettis has him pinned against the cage.
Pettis gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Segason.
Pettis avoiding damage as Segason throws knees to the body.
Segason is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Pettis is defending well.

Pettis decides to pull guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Segason stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pettis swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Pettis throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pettis has his hands on Segason's head, controlling the position.
Pettis keeping moving, preventing Segason from controlling successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pettis has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Segason fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gaseous Segason. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Pettis clinches with his opponent.
Pettis unloads a knee to the mid-section. Segason lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Segason tries for a takedown. No joy.

Pettis jumps guard.
Pettis bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Segason's guard.
Pettis controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pettis trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Pettis gets to his feet. Segason looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Pettis avoids the head kick by Segason.

Pettis rushes Segason and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Segason tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Pettis smiles and moves away.
Segason is breathing heavily.
Pettis with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Nice takedown defense from Segason. No joy for Pettis on that attempt.
Pettis changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Segason tries to avoid it but Pettis manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Segason to the ground. Segason escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Pettis throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Pettis misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Segason.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fight stays on the outside here - Segason looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Segason misses with a hook. Pettis ducked under it nicely.
Segason defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Pettis.

Pettis darts in and clinches Segason up against the cage.
Segason looking for a takedown.
Segason is looking to take this one to the mat.

Pettis manages to pull guard.
Pettis has his hands on Segason's head, controlling the position.

Pettis working for a triangle but Segason defends it easily.

Pettis is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Pettis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Pettis had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Segason defends it easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Segason trying to control the position from guard on top but Pettis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anthony Pettis dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Segason connects with a high kick.
Segason on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Pettis. Pettis obviously looking to wear him down.
Pettis tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Segason swivels and escapes.

Pettis moves into range and clinches up with Segason.
Segason tries to break the clinch but Pettis is controlling the position.
Pettis looking for a takedown.
Segason is pressed up against the cage. Pettis has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Segason down to the mat. Segason avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Gaseous Segason has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anthony Pettis.

Segason gets tackled into the cage by Pettis. Pettis maintains the clinch.
Pettis is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Segason is trying to maintain a safe position but Pettis gets an underhook and turns Segason into the cage.
Segason tries to work over Pettis's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Pettis gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Pettis controlling the action here.

Segason punching from the bottom.
Segason has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Pettis is working away from the top position though.

Segason is defending against the submission attempts here by Pettis.
Segason wants to control but Pettis is keeping busy.

Segason is trying to stand back up but Pettis is controlling him
Pettis with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Segason manages to get to full guard.
Pettis pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Segason is keeping the position for now.
Segason trying to keep a closed guard but Pettis is proving a slippery customer.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Pettis not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
No luck for Segason with that takedown attempt.

Pettis rushes Segason and presses him up against the cage.

Pettis jumps into guard, dragging Segason to the mat.

Pettis working for submissions but it's allowed Segason to get to half guard.
Segason not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Segason is trying to control the action in half guard but Pettis is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Pettis makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Segason shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Pettis as he jumps to the side.
Gaseous Segason is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Pettis goes for a double leg but Segason avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Segason continues to drive forward.

Pettis breaks from the clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pettis lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Pettis connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Segason's hands.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Pettis looks to score with a jab to the body but Segason is just out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anthony Pettis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Segason shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Pettis sprawls well. Pettis wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Segason gets slowly back to his feet.
Pettis will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Segason looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Pettis is fending him off so far but Segason persists. Nope, Pettis circles away and we're back to standing.

Pettis has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Segason uses from the top position.

Pettis pulls guard effortlessly.
Pettis pulls Segason in close to prevent any damage.
Pettis lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Segason!

Segason just trying to survive but Pettis is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Segason tries to escape but Pettis has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Pettis is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Anthony Pettis has got the better of the ground game so far.

Pettis is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Segason is defending well though. Pettis let's go of the attempt for now.

Anthony Pettis is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well Pettis has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
