PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ron Dogg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wanderlei Menezes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dogg's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Kickstart My Heart. On his way into the cage it seems that Ron Dogg has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Ron Dogg seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ron Dogg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wanderlei Menezes!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Daniel Cesar and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dogg shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Menezes counters with a three punch combo that has Dogg backing up. Dogg nods at Menezes to acknowledge the strikes.

and Menezes counters by moving into the clinch.
Menezes scores with a hook to the body.
Come on Menezes - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Menezes has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Dogg regains guard immediately.
Dogg could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Dogg trying to keep a closed guard but Menezes is proving a slippery customer.
Dogg preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Menezes postures up in Dogg's guard and throws a big left but Dogg blocks it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Menezes won't allow Dogg to sweep him here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Dogg holds on and takes a little breather.
Dogg is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Tenacity Elite - 17 Coaches that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

Menezes throws a big right hand that misses.
Menezes throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dogg works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Dogg has Menezes pulled in close to control his posture.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ron Dogg.
Dogg has his takedown stuffed

and Menezes counters by clinching up.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ron Dogg. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dogg is fighting off a takedown attempt but Menezes is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Dogg to the mat. Dogg regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Menezes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dogg swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dogg throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Dogg wants to sweep but no luck.
Dogg might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Dogg is trying to keep Menezes in close.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Menezes has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Dogg regains guard immediately.

Dogg is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Menezes keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Dogg's head.
Dogg tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Menezes postures up.

Menezes drops back looking for a leg! Dogg is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Dogg manages to kick Menezes off! Menezes jumps back into Dogg's guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ron Dogg wasn't doing enough on the ground.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Menezes ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Menezes no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Menezes is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Dogg dives into side control.
Dogg creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Menezes sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wanderlei Menezes dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Menezes throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Doggs head.


Dogg is rocked!

Menezes turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Oh Dogg is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Menezes in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Dogg looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! Menezes turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:42 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Wanderlei Menezes!
