PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pwnasaurus Rex (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Remo Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rex comes into the arena with The Forest blaring out of the sound system. Williams has chosen Remo Williams Theme as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pwnasaurus Rex!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Remo Williams!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Trevor Gratis and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rex slips a straight right by Williams.
Williams lands a jab.

Rex drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rex stopping the sweep attempt from Williams.
Williams really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rex. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Rex trying to control but Williams is working from the bottom.
Rex throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rex keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Williams's head.
Rex slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Rex won't allow Williams to sweep him here.
Williams controls Rex momentarily but Rex frees himself.

Rex is looking to work some ground and pound but Williams has wrist control.

We've been hearing that Rex has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Rex working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Rex postures up and lands a big shot to Williams's brow.
Rex is looking to work some ground and pound but Williams has wrist control.
Rex throwing strikes but missing.
Rex postures up in Williams's guard and throws a big left but Williams blocks it.
Rex stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Williams swivels though and keeps the full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rex accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Rex throws an elbow that misses. Williams uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Rex's guard. Nice move by Williams!
Rex looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Williams being controlled here momentarily.
Williams's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Rex has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Rex thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Rex keeping moving, preventing Williams from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Remo Williams was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Williams connects with a crisp jab.
Williams jabs Rex right on the nose. Rex blinks but takes it well.
Remo Williams seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rex lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Williams circles away quickly and effectively.
Williams throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Williams throws a combination. Rex tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Williams misses with a hook.
Williams fails to land with a series of punches.

Rex uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Williams.
Williams thuds a left hand into Rex's body.
Williams throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Rex sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Rex throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Williams was covering up waiting for the punch and Rex finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Williams can do anything to dispel that myth.
Rex wants to control from the top but Williams keeps moving.
Rex throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Williams works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Williams trying to control the position.
Rex wants to control from the top but Williams keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Pwnasaurus Rex will probably get the nod.

Williams throws a lazy uppercut

and Rex counters with a single leg into guard. Williams didn't expect that.
Williams is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Rex postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Rex throws a big right hand that misses.
Rex wants to control from the top but Williams keeps moving.
Rex advances position into side control!
Rex cracks Williams with an elbow. That is naaassty.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Williams regains half guard, as Rex was trying to land strikes.
Rex wants to take a breather but Williams is having none of it.

Williams wants to improve his position but Rex is controlling well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Williams is pulling down on Rex's head to control his posture.
Williams avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Williams misses with a two punch combination.
Williams throws a good cross that connects.
Rex goes for a double leg but Williams avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Williams continues to drive forward.
Rex keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Williams's efforts to push away.

Williams prevents the takedown attempt.
Rex drops down looking for an ankle pick but Williams pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pwnasaurus Rex. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A looping hook to the body misses from Williams. Rex does a little dance to reset his feet.
Williams connects with a looping right hand.
Rex is looking to clinch but Williams is avoiding it.
Williams misses with a straight right.

and Rex counters with a nice uppercut.
Williams scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rex dives in and grabs Williams's left leg, looking for a takedown. Williams pushes down on Rex's head and hops out.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Williams lands a jab to Rex's midsection.
Williams throws a lazy right hand but Rex sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Nice uppercut there from Williams.
Good standup being displayed there by Williams as he connects with a hook.

Pwnasaurus Rex dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Rex shoots in for a double leg but Williams sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Rex avoids the body shot from Williams.
Pwnasaurus Rex is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Williams dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Rex uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Williams.

Williams takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Rex tries to clinch but Williams moves out of range.
Rex moves out of range as Williams strikes.

Rex takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Williams's coach down at GnP Factory Elite Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Williams's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Rex looks for a takedown but Williams sprawls well.
Rex shoots in looking for a takedown. Williams tries to sprawl out of it but Rex keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Williams manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Williams bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Rex's head.

Williams uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Rex.
Rex fails with a takedown attempt.
Williams throws a big shot that misses.
Rex throws a body punch but Williams moves out of range.
Williams with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Williams throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Williams is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Rex.
Williams connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Rex momentarily.

Rex gets a takedown into half guard.
Williams is not content to let Rex control the position.

Rex wants to pass the guard but Williams is defending well.
Williams has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rex is working away from the top position though.

Rex is working for a submission of some sort.
Rex is looking to take a break and control but Williams is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Rex missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Rex throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Rex thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Williams's head.
Rex looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Williams avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Rex.

Rex wants to work for an arm triangle but Williams is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Williams is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Rex looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Pwnasaurus Rex.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rex, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
