PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Conchito El Guapo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Russell Ives (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). El Guapo comes into the arena with Bebot blaring out of the sound system. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Conchito El Guapo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Russell Ives!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ives fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but El Guapo avoids it really well and circles away.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Ives has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Ives shoots in but no luck this time.
Some wild striking there from El Guapo.
Ives lands with an uppercut that bounces El Guapo off the cage and back into range.
Ives tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but El Guapo swivels and escapes.
Conchito El Guapo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Russell Ives.
El Guapo dives in and grabs Ives's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ives pushes down on El Guapo's head and hops out.
No luck with that takedown attempt from El Guapo.
El Guapo looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Ives misses with the combination.
El Guapo throws a series of punches but Ives avoids them all with ease.
Ives shoots in and drives through. El Guapo sprawls well.
El Guapo throws a right hand that Ives ducks under and follows up with a left that Ives also avoids with ease.
El Guapo fails with a takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.

El Guapo shoots in and drives through. Ives sprawls well.
Ives looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

El Guapo tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Ives defends well and El Guapo ends up having to push Ives into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
El Guapo is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Ives is defending well.
El Guapo blocks an uppercut.
Ives wants to take the fight to the mat but El Guapo manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Ives tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Ives pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Jab, jab by Ives - just one landing.
Sloppy strikes from El Guapo. Those never looked like landing.

Ives feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Ives cracks El Guapo with a solid left hand.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ives is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Ives is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Ives trying to control but El Guapo is working from the bottom.
Ives sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed El Guapo's guard.
Ives has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Ives is looking to take a break and control but El Guapo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ives perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
El Guapo pushes Ives off looking to stand but Ives dives back in and keeps control.
Ives drops an elbow to the side of El Guapo's head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ives working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Ives slips a nice elbow through El Guapo's hands, connecting with El Guapo's forehead.

Ives throwing shots but El Guapo is blocking nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ives prevents El Guapo from standing back up.
Ives is nestled in close to El Guapo, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Ives is trying to control the action in half guard but El Guapo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
El Guapo is looking to escape.
El Guapo on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if El Guapo tries to get out of the position.
Ives working over El Guapo with some ground and pound. El Guapo looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Ives lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ives working El Guapo over with strikes.
El Guapo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Ives seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but El Guapo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Nice strikes from Ives there.
Ives works his way into full mount!

El Guapo takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Ives has isolated one of El Guapo's arms. El Guapo looking to fight him off but Ives twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
