PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Julian Knight (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lance Kilkenny (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kilkenny is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Murder was the case. On his way into the cage it seems that Julian Knight has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Julian Knight seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Julian Knight!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lance Kilkenny!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, William Gold and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kilkenny takes a swing at Knight's ribcage but misses.
Knight moves away from the strike by Kilkenny.
Knight will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Kilkenny throws out a leg kick but Knight moves out of range and Kilkenny only half commits.
Knight lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Knight moves out of range of the body kick.
Knight tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kilkenny was well out of range. Poor timing from Knight.
Kilkenny lets loose with a powerful body kick. Knight will feel that in the morning.
Knight looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
A head kick by Kilkenny misses

and Knight counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kilkenny holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Kilkenny slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Kilkenny looking to hit a scissor sweep but Knight is one step ahead there.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Kilkenny ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Kilkenny takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Kilkenny lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Knight has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Knight and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Knight changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Kilkenny swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Kilkenny moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Kilkenny throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
A head kick misses from Kilkenny.
Kilkenny looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Knight finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Knight slips under a jab.
Kilkenny thumps Knight with a low kick.
Kilkenny checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Kilkenny tried to score with a low kick but Knight checks it.

Kilkenny pivots, looking for a leg kick but Knight is out of range and Kilkenny settles back down.

Lance Kilkenny is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Knight connects with a nice looking jab.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Knight.

Kilkenny throws a leg kick

and Knight counters with a single leg into guard. Kilkenny didn't expect that.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Knight's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Knight in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Knight postures up in Kilkenny's guard and throws a big left but Kilkenny blocks it.
Knight with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Knight is looking to work some ground and pound but Kilkenny has wrist control.
Knight in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Knight looking to sit in guard and control but Kilkenny gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Knight decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Kilkenny is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Kilkenny keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Knight is stalling here. Kilkenny is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Knight seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Kilkenny has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Kilkenny working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Kilkenny drops back, looking for a kneebar! Knight looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Knight looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Knight!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Julian Knight.
Well Knight has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
