PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Andy Wang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Daniels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Andy Wang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jack Daniels!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Sano and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wang jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Wang looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Daniels!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wang blocks Daniels's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Wang controlling his opponent.
Daniels wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Daniels tries to improve his position but instead Wang has taken his back!
Daniels wants to escape the position but for the time being he's just trying to control the pace.

Wang is not going to allow Daniels to sit and survive in this position.
Wang tries to get the hooks in deep but Daniels pushed the leg off.
Wang gets his hands free as Daniels looks to control.
Wang is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Wang throws a hook but Daniels avoids it easily.

and Wang counters with a takedown into side control.
Wang is breathing heavily.
Wang controlling the position.
Daniels is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Wang passes into side control, despite Daniels's attempt to control the position.

Wang working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Daniels tries to buck Wang off but Wang is having none of it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Daniels sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Daniels has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Wang is working away from the top position though.
Daniels misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Daniels tries to kick Wang off but Wang keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Nice body punch from Daniels.
Daniels throws a body kick that misses.
Daniels shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Wang counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Wang.

Daniels keeping busy on the bottom but Wang has passed one foot through into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Daniels tries to hold on but Wang postures up.

Daniels wants to control but Wang is having none of it.

Wang wants to control the pace but Daniels is squirming around nicely.

Daniels tries to hold on but Wang postures up.
Andy Wang overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Daniels regains half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Daniels pushes Wang off looking to stand but Wang dives back in and keeps control.
Daniels tries to kick Wang off in order to stand up. Wang Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Wang wants to lay and pray for a moment but Daniels keeps working.
Daniels is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Wang's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Wang decides to stand up.
Daniels tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Andy Wang is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Daniels shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Daniels missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Wang trying to control but Daniels postures up.

Wang avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Daniels.
Daniels seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Wang keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Wang is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Daniels pulls his head out easily.
Wang wants to improve his position but Daniels is controlling well.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Wang shoots in for a double leg but Daniels sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Wang tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Daniels paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Daniels changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wang tries to avoid it but Daniels manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wang to the ground. Wang escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
No luck for Wang with that takedown attempt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Daniels has his foot on Wang's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wang works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Wang misses with a takedown attempt - Daniels sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Daniels trying to keep a closed guard but Wang is proving a slippery customer.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Daniels throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Wang escapes and throws Daniels's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Daniels is looking for a sweep.
Wang is chipping away with strikes.
Wang in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Daniels stops Wang from passing to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Wang is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Daniels is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Daniels wants to get back to full guard.
Daniels regains full guard. Nicely done.
Daniels trying to keep a closed guard but Wang is proving a slippery customer.
Daniels has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Wang trying to control the position from guard on top but Daniels is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Daniels working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wang doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wang manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Wang might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Daniels wants to get back to his feet but Wang is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Jack Daniels has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Wang fails in his attempt to clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Andy Wang.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wang, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
