Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Charles Douglas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bas Rutten!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Skip Squint and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rutten cracks Douglas with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Rutten misses with a two punch combination.
Douglas connects with a leg kick. Rutten looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Douglas tries a head kick but it misses.
Douglas fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Rutten on the side of the head.

Douglas closes the distance and pushes Rutten back into the cage.

Douglas has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Rutten is trying to keep an underhook but Douglas manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Rutten is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Douglas scores with a couple of nice shots.
Rutten on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Douglas has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Douglas is looking to advance position but Rutten won't allow it.

Douglas looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Rutten is controlling Douglas's trapped leg to prevent Douglas from advancing to side control.

Rutten has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Douglas is working away from the top position though.
Rutten wants to get back to full guard.

Douglas is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rutten defends it well.
Douglas has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Douglas has control of Rutten's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Rutten regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Douglas has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Rutten's face.

Rutten is trying to escape the mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Douglas lands a heavy elbow.
Douglas connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Douglas looking to control but Rutten is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Douglas fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Rutten told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Rutten is rocked!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rutten can do anything to dispel that myth.
A big strike lands for Douglas! That's really hurt Rutten and he's turned his back - Douglas keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Douglas jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Charles Douglas!
A pretty intense looking Charles Douglas took the opportunity post-fight to ask for a shot at the title.
