Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lucas Augusto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Demian Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lucas Augusto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Edson Gomes and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Augusto swinging wilding here.
Maia tries to close the distance and clinch but Augusto swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Augusto looks to clinch
and Maia counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Maia not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Maia stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Augusto swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Augusto throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Maia passes Augusto's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Maia wants to work for an arm triangle but Augusto is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Maia is pressing down on Augusto's thigh, looking to free his foot. Augusto is holding on for now.
Maia missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Maia throwing shots but Augusto is blocking nicely.
Maia working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Maia wants to pass the guard but Augusto is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Augusto is trying to control but can't.
Maia has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Augusto keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Maia is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Maia thows a body shot but no joy.
Augusto has managed to clinch.
Augusto breaks the clinch.
Maia changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Augusto looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Maia goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Augusto rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Maia's guard! Nice work there by Augusto!
Maia has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Augusto can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Maia looks gassed!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Augusto is working hard here to advance position.
Augusto wants to control from the top but Maia keeps moving.

Maia manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Augusto manages to get himself to full guard.
Maia is pushing down on Augusto's leg trying to pass to half guard. Augusto is fighting to maintain full guard but Maia has managed to sneak the leg through.
Maia is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Augusto is staying active underneath Maia, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Maia is taking a breather. Augusto says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Maia is looking for a kimura but Augusto is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Maia to get the leverage.
Maia decides to return to a standing position.
Maia misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Augusto throws a right hand that Maia ducks under and follows up with a left that Maia also avoids with ease.
The fight stays on the outside here - Maia looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Maia scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Maia is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Augusto doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Maia.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Demian Maia dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Maia shoots in and bounces Augusto off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Augusto looking to hit a scissor sweep but Maia is one step ahead there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Maia stands up and waves to Augusto to follow him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Maia drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Maia thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Augusto to regain full guard.
Maia tries to free his leg and advance position but Augusto is retaining full guard.
Augusto keeping busy on the bottom but Maia has passed one foot through into half guard.

Maia works his way into side control.
Augusto tries to buck Maia off but Maia is having none of it.
Maia tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Maia has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Maia connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Augusto some visible discomfort.
Maia is working to tighten is grip on Augusto's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Augusto has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Maia is really squeezing tight and eventually Augusto passes out! Maia breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
