PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kintoki Sakata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenny Traviz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sakata is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Traviz tries to clinch up.
Sakata looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Traviz changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Sakata fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Traviz's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Traviz is trying to pull guard but Sakata has him pressed against the cage.

Traviz has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Sakata uses from the top position.

Traviz closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Traviz works to advance to full mount. Sakata defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

It looks like Traviz might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Traviz scores with a head kick. Sakata tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Sakata defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Traviz.
Traviz shoots in looking for a takedown. Sakata tries to sprawl out of it but Traviz keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sakata manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

The crowd cheers as Traviz lands an impressive looking overhand right. Sakata doesn't seem phased though.

Sakata tries to close the distance and clinch but Traviz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Sakata goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Sakata looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Traviz fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sakata avoids it really well and circles away.
Sakata goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Traviz closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Sakata sneaks back into half guard.
Traviz wants to advance to full mount but Sakata doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Sakata pushes Traviz off and scrambles back to his feet.
Traviz is looking to clinch but Sakata is avoiding it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Traviz shoots for a double leg takedown but Sakata sprawls well. He's pushed Traviz's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Sakata throws a series of strikes that have Traviz backpedaling.
Traviz misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Sakata.
Sakata works over Traviz's head and body with a nice combination.

Sakata clinches.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Traviz misses with a hook to the ribs.
Traviz tries to pull guard but Sakata won't allow it.
Traviz fails to pull the fight into his guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sakata is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Sakata has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kenny Traviz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Traviz shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Traviz was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Traviz is looking to take a break and control but Sakata is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Traviz is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sakata has escaped the position, nice work there.
Traviz grinds an elbow into Sakata's temple.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Sakata wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Sakata on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Sakata is not content to let Traviz control the position.

Traviz seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sakata does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Traviz perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Traviz is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Sakata!

Kintoki Sakata has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Traviz might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Sakata haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Kenny Traviz is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well Traviz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
