PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brock Lesnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Sapp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brock Lesnar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bob Sapp!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, George Francis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lesnar drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Sapp parries the strikes from Lesnar easily there. Lesnar is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Sapp to escape.
Lesnar in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Sapp is not content to let Lesnar control the position.

Lesnar decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Sapp tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Lesnar manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Lesnar keeps the fight on the outside.
Sapp darts in trying to clinch

and Lesnar counters with a head kick that drops Sapp to the mat! Sapp scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Lesnar rushes Sapp and presses him up against the cage.
Sapp tries to break the clinch but Lesnar is controlling the position.
Lesnar has Sapp pressed against the cage, preventing Sapp from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Sapp tries to break the clinch but Lesnar is controlling the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lesnar working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Lesnar working some nice short punches in the clinch.

Lesnar escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Sapp tries to close the distance and clinch but Lesnar swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Lesnar fails with a takedown attempt.

Lesnar takes the fight into the clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Lesnar takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Sapp wants to break free but Lesnar has control.
Sapp prevents the takedown attempt.
Lesnar leaning against his opponent.
Sapp wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Lesnar tries for a takedown but Sapp manages to get underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brock Lesnar. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Lesnar has hold of one of Sapp's legs. Sapp is fighting the takedown attempt but Lesnar gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Lesnar has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Lesnar gets to his feet - Sapp follows without any prompting.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Nice jab there from Lesnar.
Sapp looks to land a combination but Lesnar avoids it well.
Sapp is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Lesnar lands with a kick to the ribs.
Sloppy strikes from Lesnar. Those never looked like landing.
A slow jab from Sapp misses its intended target.
Sapp tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lesnar swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Lesnar throws a right and a left that both miss.
Lesnar's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Sapp connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Lesnar scrambles back to his feet.
Lesnar scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.


It looks like Bob Sapp has been cut.
Sapp fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Lesnar scores with a nice strike.
Sapp misses with a two punch combination.
Lesnar avoids a kick to the body.

Sapp gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Lesnar to score an easy takedown into full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sapp avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Lesnar is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Lesnar in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Sapp is trying to keep Lesnar in close.
Lesnar sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Sapp's guard.
Lesnar perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Sapp felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Sapp is trying to get back to full guard.
Lesnar seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lesnar throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Lesnar lands strikes from half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sapp blocking the ground and pound attempt from Lesnar.
Lesnar missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Lesnar thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sapp's head.
Sapp makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Sapp.
Sapp looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lesnar is one step ahead there.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lesnar accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Lesnar trying to control but Sapp is working from the bottom.
Lesnar throws a big right hand that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brock Lesnar dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Bob Sapp's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Lesnar feints and as Sapp raises his hands in defense, Lesnar changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Lesnar with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lesnar throws a big elbow that misses.

Lesnar drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Lesnar seems to have locked his on tight now - Sapp screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Lesnar, as he picks up the win!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:31 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Brock Lesnar!
