PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dmitry Gromov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rudolf Deer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gromov comes to the cage accompanied by Otrayavleniy-Warrior Spirit. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Vladimir Khabensky and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gromov closes the distance and clinches up with Deer, looking for a takedown. Gromov pushes Deer against the cage but Deer circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Deer wants to clinch.
Dmitry Gromov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Deer stuffs the takedown.
Gromov shoots in looking for a takedown. Deer tries to sprawl out of it but Gromov keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Deer manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dmitry Gromov. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gromov blocks a head kick by Deer.
Deer should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Gromov closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
It looks like Gromov is going to stand back up.
Gromov thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Deer's head.
Deer trying to hold on to Gromov's head to control him but Gromov postures up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Deer can do anything to dispel that myth.

Deer avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Gromov.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gromov is trying to control the action in half guard but Deer is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Deer is trying to get back to full guard.
Gromov not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Gromov seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Deer does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Gromov drops an elbow to the side of Deer's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gromov throwing shots but Deer is blocking nicely.
Gromov blocks the strikes from Deer.
Gromov looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Deer with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Gromov thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Deer wants to improve his position but Gromov is controlling well.
Gromov seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Deer is trying to control but Gromov manages to pass to mount!
Deer wants to hold on but Gromov pushes him away.

Gromov prevents Deer from getting the reversal.
Gromov looking to finish Deer with some ground and pound. This is bad for Deer!
Gromov lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Gromov working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Gromov looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Deer covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dmitry Gromov!
