PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dj Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrei Saintclair (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Andrei Saintclair was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dj Paul!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andrei Saintclair!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Leandro Rodrigues and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Saintclair shoots in and drives through. Paul sprawls well.
Paul stuffs the takedown.
Paul shoots for a double leg takedown but Saintclair sprawls well. He's pushed Paul's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Paul throws a right hand that Saintclair ducks under and follows up with a left that Saintclair also avoids with ease.
Saintclair tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Paul swivels and escapes.
Dj Paul has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andrei Saintclair.

Saintclair shoots in and gets a takedown into Paul's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Saintclair drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Paul dives on top into guard.

Paul avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Saintclair is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Paul is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Paul wants to pass the guard but Saintclair is keeping the position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Paul trying to control the position from guard on top but Saintclair is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Paul throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Paul forces his way into half guard.
Saintclair won't allow Paul to pass to mount.

Paul is looking for a kimura but Saintclair is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Paul to get the leverage.
Paul wants to control but Saintclair is keeping him busy.
Saintclair tries to get to full guard but Paul has control of the leg.
Paul definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Saintclair is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Paul pulls his head out easily.
Saintclair has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at CT Antiga União. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Paul is working for a kimura but Saintclair is defending it quite comfortably.
Paul slips a nice elbow through Saintclair's hands, connecting with Saintclair's forehead.
Saintclair is pressing down on Paul's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Paul has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Saintclair escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Paul gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Saintclair escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Paul gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Saintclair looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Saintclair is looking for a triangle but Paul pushes his legs off easily.

Paul drops back looking for a leg! Saintclair is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Saintclair manages to kick Paul off! Paul jumps back into Saintclair's guard.

Paul thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Saintclair looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Paul might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Paul thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Paul got a little sloppy there for a moment and Saintclair has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Paul has managed to get both his arms back between Saintclair's legs - danger averted.

Paul with a flurry of punches that miss.

Saintclair looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Paul is defending well. Saintclair quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Paul has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Saintclair celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Andrei Saintclair!
Andrei Saintclair decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
