PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Chang Velez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Bostic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chang Velez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Justin Bostic!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bostic throws a right and a left that both miss.

Bostic shoots in and bounces Velez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Velez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Velez keeping moving, preventing Bostic from controlling successfully.
Velez has control of Bostic's left arm, preventing Bostic from doing any damage.
Velez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Velez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bostic's guard.

Velez is working Bostic over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bostic wants to stand but Velez is controlling the position.
Velez is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Velez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Bostic pushes Velez off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Bostic pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Velez misses with a takedown attempt - Bostic sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Velez looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Bostic darts in and clinches Velez up against the cage.
Velez blocking some punches.

Velez gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Bostic regains guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Bostic wants to get back to his feet but Velez is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Velez throws a big right hand that misses.
Bostic is looking to stand up but Velez isn't so interested in that idea.
Bostic looks winded!

Bostic wants to stand up but Velez is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Velez is in close to Bostic's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Velez connects with a couple of short punches.
Velez landing with the ground and pound.

Bostic has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Velez is trying to keep an underhook but Bostic manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Bostic swings for the body but Velez moves out of range.

Bostic throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Velez tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Bostic is in Velez's guard.
Velez is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Bostic is controlling him.
Chang Velez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Bostic drops back, looking for a kneebar! Velez looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Velez looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Velez!

Velez is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Bostic has escaped the position, nice work there.
Bostic bucks up and tries to throw Velez off but instead Velez has got his back!
Bostic is breathing heavily.

Bostic is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Bostic is trying to stand back up.
Velez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Velez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Velez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Velez won't allow Bostic to get back to his feet.

Velez gets to his feet - Bostic follows without any prompting.
Bostic does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Bostic takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Bostic closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Velez sneaks out the side door and pushes Bostic away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Velez throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Velez uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Bostic.

Bostic scores with a takedown into Velez's guard.
Bostic must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Velez is pulling down on Bostic's head. It's preventing any offense from Bostic, at least for the moment.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Velez manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Bostic throws a head kick but Velez moves out of range.
Velez darts in looking for a takedown but Bostic gets double underhooks and turns Velez into the cage.

Bostic has Velez pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Bostic pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Velez tumbling to the mat - Bostic dives into Velez's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Bostic wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Velez manages to pass to side control.

Velez seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Bostic pushes Velez off looking to stand but Velez dives back in and keeps control.
Bostic on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Bostic is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Velez scores with a couple of nice shots.

Velez is looking for a kimura here.
Bostic has hold of Velez's hands but Velez slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Velez looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bostic with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Velez drops an elbow to the side of Bostic's head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Velez is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Justin Bostic has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Chang Velez is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Chang Velez showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Velez, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
